I just downloaded the XML-file at the language-section.

Which editor is the best in order to be able to edit the XML-file and work on the translations ?

I have no idea of how to open the XML-file.

    Many thanks,

Why are you editing the XML file?

If you edit that file, when you upgrade it will be overwritten and all changes will be lost.

You should only edit the phrases from within the ACP.

To clarify, none of the files in install/data/ should be edited

is there a "How to" of how to safely do this in ACP ?

    Just create your new language.
    Then click on Phrases.
Click on the specific phrase you want to edit.
    Edit the Phrase text field.
    Click Save.

    Thanks Brogan !

Is it actually safe to start with translations already now ? Or better wait for the stable release ?
I understand that fresh releases will bring some more phrases or changes, but the question is rather of how to be on the safe-side when upgrading the XF-software, so that already done work does not get deleted or somehow messed up ?

And how already translated phrases will be handled on new software-upgrades ?

During upgrade you will not lose your translation. You always can download your language XML to your hard drive...
