What is next for XenForo?

Social networking sites are killing xenforo (forums in general) the proof is here >> http://xenforo.com/community/threads/forums-are-dead.62329/ so the survival of xenforo depends on whether these sites just melt into slimy goo one day and xenforo will live on ensuring it's (I feel a hashtag moment coming) #survival .

I doubt that a "hashtag" will help Forums in any way or will insure their "#survival".
I agree it needs to be focused on the "interest graph" rather than the "social graph"... which a "hashtag" is actually doing in some way.

But there needs to be something else in order to make XF stand out compared to Twitter and FB....
Whatever that might be......

It is hard to do properly, but I think there is a big chance to compete with Twitter and FB..... even a big chance to make these currently popular "social networks" obsolete.

If you have a general chat forum, then yes, your forum is going to die by FB. However, I don't think it would ever happen to forums that are aimed to share information on a specific topic.

  1. Personalized entrance page. (It's been requested on XF, VB, IPB, etc) Give users the content that matters to them most FIRST.
Plus a much better personalised Profile page.

Both these are about respecting users identity as individuals.
People are starving for that in society and they love opportunities for self expression with us. If they dont want these things and are happy with good defaults thats fine but those that enjoy customising really feel the lack of it.

Protecting the privacy of users is the key in these times of NSA-activities revealed.
These NSA-issues might even be the downfall of the currently popular "social networks" and the re-emergence of de-centralized Forum-communities.
Who knows... time will tell.

Tapatalk is an app', not a style.

The current mobile implementation is far better than a third party app' and AdSense has been supported since day one.

What do you mean by "mobile implementation"?

Bottom line: When I visit xenforo.com forums on my phone, it looks nice, and is easy to use. When I fit it my forums (xenforo) on my iPhone, everything is just a miniature version of what I see on my desktop.

Is there something I need to do to activate "mobile implementation"?

I don't believe older versions of Xenforo are responsive "mobile friendly."

Push notifications won't come any time soon until the mobile phones allow web based notifications and loosen some restrictions on their requirements.

A hashtag isn't really a graph. It's like those keywords [on a website] or tags [on a wordpress install], but instead of actually showing the tags on the page... It not only shows relevant stories, allowing you - the marketer - to target the niche that's using the tag. For example, let's say your favorite show is The Simpsons, you hashtag it to communicate with like-minded fans.

And yes, it HAS helped forums and has ensured the survival of a Forum. I've already have been using it on half of my sites and it has converted viewers into readers. Whether they register or not is not the point - the point is, the more you use hashtags, even if the results are just for a few seconds - the more you use them, the more eyeballs you gain.
