What does 'XenForo Community' discuss?

Hi,
I have just registered at this forum, and I don't know what to be discussed at this forum.

While trying to log in to Android forums with my account, I have found
Our bots are currently hard at work upgrading
Android Forums to Xenforo.

Thus, I have clicked on the Xenforo, which guided me to this forum of yours.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I can post my threads at this forum If I have some problems with my Samsung Galaxy Mini GT-S5570I, such as: Pairing Samsung Bluetooth with my Laptop's Bluetooth. Also, I need a DLNA client which will work with my mobile model
  • I tried the AnDLNA player which was working with me, however, it couldn't support some file formats.
  • Ginkgo DLNA is not compatible with my Android Samsung model

Just to try and clarify what has been said: The websites you have listed are not web hosting services. They are website builders. The difference is simple - web hosting is like renting a parking space. A web builder gives you the car.

What you need to do is to seek out a web hosting company to rent web hosting space - there are loads out there, and a quick Google for "best web hosting" should yield loads of results. You'll also need a domain name - which is the name you see in your address bar when you're on a site. The domain name for this forum is xenforo.com, for example. Thankfully, most reputable web hosts are happy to sell you a domain name too - which means you don't have to configure it yourself.

So, once you've decided on a name and ordered hosting, you'll be left with a blank space. In order to get a forum into your space, you'll first need to buy XenForo. When you're buying XenForo, you have two options: Purchase the installation service, to get one of the members of the XenForo team to install it for you (much easier), or go without and do it yourself.

Thanks a lot, as you said that
web hosting is like renting a parking space. A web builder gives you the car.

Thus, if I can pay for a car a one-time payment forever. However, for parking space, I will continue paying for using it as long as I need it.
Thus, I think I will only pay a one-time payment for your XenForo software. However, the web-hosting service(for instance, www.nimbushosting.co.uk) which will host my my website along with XenFor software will continuously charge me a monthly or yearly.
If I didn't pay for it, then my website along with XenForo software will be stopped hosting. Thus, if I want to pay a one-time payment forever, what should I do?(What other web-hosting service will let me pay a one time payment even if there are some features of hosting will be lost?

Finally: I understand from this below, that Xeforo forum is hosted by www.nimbushosting.co.uk

Nimbus are the team to turn to for Xenforo web hosting. We've been supporting a range of customers since Xenforo first launched — including some of the largest Xenforo communities out there — helping keep their forums open and running 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.

You can pay once for XenForo and use it indefinitely.

You renew at $40 (for just the base software) after a year to receive another year of updates.

The short answer is that this doesn't exist, and would never work because of the costs involved in running web hosting (they have to rent bandwidth to sell on, plus maintain hardware, etcetera). However, good web hosting is really not expensive - Nimbus are quite expensive, but that's because they're some of the best hosting you can buy for XenForo. You can go for any other web host and, for a small forum, probably get just as good an experience - and probably pay a quarter of the price.

To conclude this thread:

First:
  • I will only need to pay for a web-hosting company for giving me a web hosting space. I really noticed the price of web-hosting space at Numbus is about FROM £20 PER MONTH, but I don't know if this is only for a web-hosting space, and I will be charged further for installing XenForo or creating Domain name.
  • I will not pay for domain name.
  • I will pay for XenForo(How much does it cost)?
Second:
Thus, I only continually pay (FROM £20 PER MONTH) for the web-hosting company?

Finally: From your confirmation, I understand that that the Web-hosting service which will rent me a web hosting space will be the very important role in continuing my website along with my XenForo alive on the WWW. To be in a safe condition, if I had purchased a web-hosting space, created domain name, and purchased and installed the XenForo. After that, if the contract (yearly and monthly agreements.) of web-hosting space has ended, and didn't pay for renewing it at the time, then I will lose both my web-hosting space along with my XenForo forever.? Even if I had paid for my Web-hosting space gain, but after ending the contract to get my website along with all installation(such as XenForo), then they could retrieved them well for me?

Most web-hosts will give you access to backup copies of the database as a file. Copy these backups to your personal computer or laptop on a regular basis. It will have no other use on your laptop, except for this case. If your web hosting contract has ended, and you didn't pay for renewing it at the time, you can get your XenForo forum back in the future because you saved a backup copy on your laptop. Restoring from a backup is probably an advanced topic that is beyond the scope of this thread.

Could anyone at this splendid forum take some of their precious time out to reply to my first, and second point above.

also, I didn't get an answer of this:

You should assume you'll be paying for web hosting, the domain name hosting, and the XenForo license. However, tt depends on the host - I do not believe Nimbus give you a domain name, but some hosts throw one in for free to swearer the deal. To that end, I'd probably recommend someone else for someone starting out for the first time, because getting a free domain name means you don't have to configure it.

As for paying for XenForo, the base license is $140 USD, which is unlimited. However, it only includes a year of free updates - to install any updates after your free year has expired, you'll have to pay a small renewal fee to gain access to updates again.

In short, you're probably paying monthly for hosting, which you need to keep up to keep your data (you can always redownload XenForo, but your data would be lost if you didn't back it up from your hosting) - but it is possible to pay for a year up front with some hosts. You're then renewing a domain name yearly, so your site is accessible. Lastly, if you want to update to the latest version of XenForo after the first year, you'll need to renew that license too.

.

Thanks a lot.
As long as the Nimbus web-hosting company will not give me a domain name, then what it will give me if I want to use it.
What other web-hosting companies other than Nimbus web-hosting would you recommend fro me? To prepare my money, how much do you think a good web-hosting space plan at a good web-hosting service would be costing me?

Should I have understood that this below is a confidential thing to being answered?

A hosting space, place where your database is stored. Then you will need a domain from domain registrar like namecheap etc etc.

Thanks a lot,
If I understood you well. You meant that Nimbus will only give me hosting space[web-hosting space), place where my database is stored?

Then, if want to use Nimbus, which will only give me 'web-hosting space[ place where your database is stored]', then I will need another web- hosting service which will give me a domain name.
Then, I will end up with two web-hosting services. (one offer a domain name, the other one web-hosting space)
Which web-hosting service of them will be hosting all the components of my website? If you'd said the one which will give me a hosting space(for instance, Nimbus), I would be saying how I'll then be able to move my domain name to be created on another hosing service into my web-hosting space to be created on Nimbus?

I think Nimbus makes things very difficult, how about choosing a web-hosting company/service which will give me a web-hosting space along with letting me create a domain name. Do you know any of them?

As Teapot said before:
Because Nimbus does not provide a domain name - which means that a 'beginner' would have to create one and configure it, which may be beyond his skills.
It is simpler to use a host which provides the domain name as part of the service.

Actually you want your domain registrar to be separate from the hosting company. NameCheap or NameSilo are good for registrars. I use both.

You can purchase a domain name through Nimbus as well as web hosting. They aren't the domain registrar, they use other companies for this but it makes it simple for customers to purchase from one provider.

Nimbus is based in the UK. Depending on what your forum is going to be about and where your forum visitors are going to be located (In your region of the world? Worldwide?) thgrn you may want to consider purchasing hosting closer to home.

XenForo Ltd will have a dedicated server, but I don't think anyone but them know who hosts it. See, you're misinterpreting what Nimbus are saying slightly - they're not the only place to host XenForo, nor are they in any way affiliated with XenForo Ltd. :)

Nimbus specialise in XenForo hosting, which means they know how to configure their servers to run medium to very large XenForo installations effectively, and use this as a way to attract people looking to host a XenForo forum. However, they are by no means the only, or even the best option - although I have heard excellent things about them, they're probably too much gun for what you want.

The thing you need to do is to research web hosting - as @Martok said, you'll want a host whose servers are closest to wherever your visitors are going to be, and you'll want one who provides all the requirements for XenForo - PHP and MySQL, mainly. You'll also need to see if they can provide a domain name - if not, you'll have to get one elsewhere.

Nimbus are very good. But they're not the only option for XenForo, nor are they endorsed by the XenForo team - and it's worth looking at your options before you commit. :)

As for what it should host, I'm not actually too sure anymore - I've been hosting my sites on dedicated servers or VPSes for a long time now, so I don't know the market too well. Before then, I used Krystal (not a referral link) for my sites, but that was a couple of years ago - and they're UK-based, which may not be what you want. That said, they do hosting good enough for a tiny forum for £3 a month, and chuck in a free domain name if you pay a year up front. If I were just starting out, I'd go for something like that - but there are loads of options, and I really couldn't recommend anything and be assured it's perfect for your needs. You'll need to look into it yourself.

All your replies are very reasonable, Teapot

As I only want to try such things(web-hosting space, domain name, XenForon software) for the first time, and if I was satisfied then I will pay for what is need to be paid in normal payment. Thus, I really wish that I could find a good name of a web-hosting company which will at least provide me with free domain name as a part of the service of the web-hosting space.(i.e I will only pay for web-hosting space).
Thus, I really have googled for web-hosting services, however, I found many of them, but I don't know what are the best? What would provide me an option to create a domain name as a part of the service of Web-hosting space? Could you please let me know what ones do you think are best? I think that https://krystal.co.uk will give me a web-hosting space, domain name, and an option to install 'XenForon software'). However, they don't take non UK signups.

As for Krystal.co.uk., I noticed Something, which is my website name, if I were in the Uk, would be 'mydomain.UK.co'. →If a UK user wants his domain to be 'mydomain.com', he could be.

Some others say that they can host my forum and buy the domain for me. However, I, myself, want to create my domain name, and rent my web-hosting space, and install XenForo, in order to learn these things and get experience . I don't want to be as though I am an instrument with the others' hands.

You always rent domain names for a year, whether they're bundled in free or not. So that's non-negotiable. Web hosting generally runs month-to-month, meaning you're not locked in - you just pay for a month and then pay again the next month, unless you specifically decide to pay more up-front for a discount.

Obviously, you need to buy a XenForo license either way - there's no trial versions or "lite" editions. If you want to play at running a XenForo forum to see if you like it, try the XenForo demo out and invite a few friends - you'll get a limited but decent insight into what it's all about for a couple of days. Basically, there's not really any way to play at XenForo because it's a one-time purchase, with upgrade licensing. So try the demo and decide that way :)

When I said 'if I was satisfied then I will pay for what is need to be paid in normal payment', I didn't mean the XenForo. However, I meant the web-hosting space, and domain name.

I really tried installing the XenForo demo, however, I don't benefit a lot since my domain name is not existed(For instance, if my website address OR domain name is: SouthYemen.com, then what will the Forum be? I.e. How XenForon will be shown. XenForo Domo was using this domain name 'http://d6cc6b4d6fdd358e.demo-xenforo.com'

Moreover, I don't see that Xenforo Demo supports the Arabic Language.

In addition, I found only Main Forum, and there are not sub-categories.

Also, I don't see that I can log as an admin, although I have was informed with this below
You may login as the administrator with the name admin and password admin.

The demo board is just for testing the features if you like it or not.

XenForo comes with English by default, You will need to depend on the 3rd party translations from here which is not official.

You need to create them using the ACP. Read the support articles :).

Top-right hand side there is a "Admin" link.
