vBulletin 5 screenshots

I predict you will have to change your position on this and close this thread. ;)

You might be right :) But i'll leave that upto KAM/other mods to decide.

As I see it, vBulletin 5 is going to be the next major competitor to XenForo. New features or ideas they bring may in itself alter the course of XenForo's development, and allowing people to point out what they like or don't like about it potentially provides valuble insight to allow K+M to improve XenForo.

From what we've seen so far, the majority of users don't seem like what they see, so a good indiator to K+M to keep away from such things!

I'm not even trying to be mean because I have no brand loyalty. Just saying, it looks like a free wordpress buddypress theme.

Why not just install wordpress (free) and buddypress (also free) if your going to look like that?

The key factor will be whether they demo'd a running system at ForumCon or whether they just showed a load of 'screenshots' that are actually more than likely mockups.

If its the former, they better be able to deliver, otherwise they're going to be digging themselves even further into the mire.

Did they give an ETA ?
Will it be before Xenforo 2 ?
I myself am very unlikely to go back to vBulletin. Been there, done that.
I think I'd go MyBB.

Looks like a step in the right direction. As many have stated, it's a big difference to post mockups vs shipping a product.

I'm surprised that this thread is still open. It has long been a habit to close threads concerning competitors software.
If Brogan was here, it probably wouldn't have gotten past the 1st page.

My how things have changed.... ;)

Apparently that was because most other discussions devolved. Hopefully people can keep it polite, and civil without outright bashing the product... maybe it will help Xenforo to grow... but yes... if the thread does devolve it will be locked aswell.

I don't mind this thread because it would be interesting to see how many people are impressed. I'm not.

If people are impressed, maybe they're seeing something I'm not. It's blocky and reminds me of Wordpress.

For the better. Censorship is the enemy of any forum. If there is no real reason to close a thread simply do not do it. It's an easy concept to grasp

The issue is VB is not consistent. I am willing to bet that those mock ups and the final product will look nothing a like. Granted, mock ups dont always reflect what can be done, but conceptualizing a product for ooh's and ahh's will get you nowhere quick.

xF has been the best forum software I have used to date. I hope that xF can make it out of the financial battle IB is putting them through. I love seeing the underdogs win.

Mock-ups should always look like the end project should, especially if you're using them as a marketing tool. Anyone who has seen my mock-ups for styles I have done can see that they always look almost exactly the same (Some changes are made to refine details, but I keep true to the mock-ups as much as possible).

Which is what I said. VB does not follow that principle.

Not impressed. The only thing vBulletin has that I want is the live topics modification.
If KAM could make the Recent Activity stream auto-update and auto-load as you scroll down (a la Facebook), then that would be a killer feature. If vB is doing it (and it looks like they are), then it becomes a required feature.

I like it, i like the emphasis on mobile and activity stream and the social sharing and the photo upload sharing (I presume via mobile). That and the fact I can carry all my existing photo albums and calendar events is definitely a go for us when its ready.

You can pour syrup on crap, but it don't make it pancakes! :)

I have to admit, it looks better than vB4.... but, there needs to be a lot more than just some screenshots/mockups to make me consider staying/going back to vB.
