Guys, why are we even discussing this here on XenForo? I mean how stupid would a similar thread posted on vb forums be? Isn't there a decent webmaster forum that you can discuss this vb stuff? I'm sick and tired of these vb threads here, in favour or against. Please don't bother us with these stuff anymore.

I think there are fellows among us that are scared of vB5 becomimg better than XenForo but don't want to admit it. I don't blame them. It's a natural reaction.

I read that vB5 is going to be XF's strongest competitor, but I don't think so, screw vB already. If you follow the development of Burning Board 4, you can tell that this software is going to be the strongest XF competitor. Unlike vB5 it is written from scratch just like XenForo, written in HTML5, has a built-in SEO just like XenForo, copies a lot of things from XenForo, has a lot of features that are currently missing in XenForo and btw its predecessor was voted the best commercial forum software 2011. I honestly fear that I have to move to Burning Board 4 once it's released because I really like XenForo and don't want to move. But at the end of the day you want the very best for your community.

So please Kier, Mike and Ashley, I hope you step up and wipe the floor with Burning Board.

I remember Burning Board in the vB 2.x days, it was decent but always a step behind. I lost interest in the product after it moved to 3.x, the design was terrible - reminded me of UBB for some reason. Anyway, the new version certainly looks nice.

However, XF pretty much satisfies 90% of my needs. I don't care about non-forum stuff like a CMS, gallery, etc as it's easy enough to integrate XF with other products. At this point I'm not sure what a competitor could offer to make me switch. I'd like to see built-in mobile support but that's supposed to be coming soon.

What productive conclusion did you think this thread would come too? 3 mockup pictures for us to critique so KMA can get feedback on the competitors? The exact competitor that's sueing XF to crush it to the ground.

Yep....

I haven't seen any forum with a built in search function that is worth anything.
I concur 100%. I was actually really impressed that Xenforo used the initiative to go external to a software that all they did was search, being specialist software. They took that and integrated it, thus being a user of ES I can attest that it is superior to anything I've used in forum software to date.

I admire people / companies who don't try and reinvent the wheel, and instead stay focused where their true potential lay, then they incorporate others potential into the products to work efficiently.

I was hoping that people could be mature about it and as and when we see new vBulletin 5 features announced / previewed that there could be a reasoned discussion about the benefits / drawbacks and if they could potentially be used to the possitive effect of XenForo.

That was the plan at least...

I think we both know it won't last that long lol :)

From my experience, the best forum search engine is infact, Google...

True, but the vast majority of internet users just come to a forum and type something in a search box and expect the right answer....I have a custom site search with goog and will probably come up with one just for XF. Still, most novice users are less likely to use it.....

....because this is a discussion forum? We discuss things you see. No ones forcing anyone to stay and/or read this thread. Kindly unwatch the thread if you don't want to be bothered. ;)

Same here. I guess it's just keyword site:mydomain.com.
Sorry, but ES isn't a solution for me since installation is over my head as it is probably with many others.

You are wrong Cal, like many of us who forget that this is a business forum not a discussion forum. I'm a customer of XenForo, I will go to vbulletin if I'm interested in their services or see what they are being up to. Do you want to discuss the vBulletin software, developement of their product, give feedback to them, share your ideas and thoughts? kindly go to vBulletin.com, you are more than welcome.

I agree. Maybe I'm one of the few.
There are dozens of admin type sites to discuss it. A true discussion would be people respecting each other person's opinions. That doesn't seem to happen here.
It's just another bashing thread with people trashing opposing views.

Not to go too far off topic, but this is one of my pet peeves on forums of all types: People (not mods) telling people what they should be discussing or not. I fall in the camp that says, "don't like it, don't read it." My second pet peeve is forums where threads that are otherwise relevant and allowed are closed because of someone who can't remain civil. Unfortunately for me, the entire world does not revolve around me, so I know this will continue to happen. But, my preference would be to warn/ban/etc., those who don't abide. I don't see why those who are interested/participating should be held hostage by a few bad apples.

Back on topic, it seems strange to me that there is only these three mock-ups and nothing else. I am curious as to why we have seen nothing in the way of more (especially video) since I understood that vB had a demo copy up at Forumcon. Curiously, I haven't heard anyone post about this.

and i guess everyone here is Admin with their own forum*wonders how they run their own forums* .

Styling wise those mockups seem to match xenforo pretty close. However, unless they give existing customers a significant discount I can see more people jumping ship or staying with vb4. I think the upgrade cost will either make or break vb5.

Considering they are not releasing anything for sale, do you think vBulletin was more concerned with XF 1.2 coming out and stealing more customers? So they announce that "real soon now" vB5 will look as good and work as well as XF so WAIT FOR US. DON'T BUY FROM THEM!.

Did they really call it vB5 Connect? Are they going to steal the Xbox 360 ring logo, too? All that makes me think about is how we'll soon be controlling forums with a Star Wars Kid-like arm flailing session (pretty much what Kinect is). If that's what they're aiming for, count me out! They need to hire Peter Molyneux for their PR work, he's great at raising expectations.

Just the same, the mockups look alright, but like everyone else, I'll wait for the real thing before making any decisions.
