vb5 beta released, and...

It is a Magento feature ;)
Haha, but there has GOT to be a way to change that. At least say "vBulletin". Ah well, so much humor in one day. For all the issues people claim with XenForo, I have to say I'm relatively happy with my software choice.

vBulletin 5 comes with NO free support.

Premium Customer support

vBulletin 5 Connect comes with free forum support and a month of ticket support from the world-class vBulletin support team. You can purchase additional phone and ticket support as follows:

Phone and ticket support: USD$199.00/year | USD$49.00/month

So everything will be forum based, provided anyone comes across it or not.

I understand the reason for a fee on phone support, but no ticket support?! What if you need something more "private" because the details involve security or could be compromising?!

I dont think it's so much issues with the script, as to how the place is ran. But that's for another day!

lmao!! That's why I said over and over in other thread posts about paying for support for ANY software... Like, "it's not YOUR fault our code is crappy and not properly handled within the year, but YOU gotta pay for it... Pay up sucker!" Updates/Support should be a given- regardless.

Edit: Actually, the one on one support though, could be paid for, but not that dang much. Geesh

As a developer selling my code I partly agree.

If the problems a user is having is due to bugs in my code, I provide free support, however if it's due to their negligence I tend to charge.

I'd say at least 50% of support tickets are due to problems on the clients side, so I don't see why one should just deliver free support for that.

As for updates, minor updates should be free yes, but new major updates introducing loads of new functionality? Definitely not. Producing these features costs time you know.. :)

So, the "upgrade" has to be installed somewhere different to your vB4 install.
Your vB4 add-ons won't work with vB5.
Your styles won't work with vB5.
You can't use your paid subscriptions - they're not supported in vB5 at this time.
The CMS/Article System is not support in vB5.
The infraction system is not supported in vB5.
The FAQ System is not supported in vB5.
There is no member's list in vB5.
A number of features in the Admin CP no longer work.
You cannot turn off Blogs, Social Groups, Albums (but can "hide" them with permissions!).
You cannot remove the Activity Stream (but can hide it!).

If you store your attachments and avatars in the file system, you should make sure to back them up. Depending on where you install vBulletin 5 and how you have your path specified in the database, you may need to move these files to a new location for them to work properly.

I'm thinking this has been pushed out the door kicking and screaming and leaving fingernail marks in the door frame!!!

...then you will have to pay. You know it now. If you buy a Copy of vb5 its your own fault.
I'm not stupid enough to purchase that excuse for forum software.

However.... In the interest of saving people from their own misguided judgment... Someone has already forwarded me something to help with a vBulletin 5 importer

edit: This by no means; mean that there will be one. So if you're (generally speaking) crazy enough to try vB5 .... Don't do so expecting a way back

maybe it is VB's "Business Plan" to have a lot of bugs in their software in order to collect more money on "phone support" ?

Wow.

Wasn't banned this morning and haven't posted since August.

Edit: According to vb's Zachery:
"Some users have been reporting caching issues, we've passed these onto the server guys to look into it. Sorry about that."
Yeh, I got one too. Refresh and it was gone, but it was still quite an excitement.

I am disappointed that those of us who purchased during the vb4 pre-sale fiasco aren't being extended a steeper discount.

Not to trivialize what you feel, but wasn't the 130 dollar upgrade discount already insanely steep?

vBulletin 4 pre-order customers already got the best possible deal. I don't really agree with what you have to say on that.
