vb5 beta released, and...

Got it "striking resemblance" ok "copied" not ok.
Inspired != copied.

They took a lot of design cues (As have IPB in the 3.3 release in some places) and you can tell obvious influence from XF. It isn't an exact copy, but it is similar enough for people to point out.

Just to change the Course for a min. I was thinking about what Board Software i want to use for a new Project i am working on. First there wasnt anything then xenforo, but.... ahhh all these Rumors here and there... anyway... i was trying mybb which might be good but the acp is a bit.... i dont know.
vb will never be a solution anymore, ipb might be good but support etc.... so maybe wbb will be a solution?!

But maybe anyone will start a lawsuit with them cause these Screens @ theadminzone are looking like another xenforo :censored:

But... maybe they´ve done it the right way. Back into the dark corner, developing the new Version while everyone else is to gossip viciously about everything

Maybe, maybe, maybe :whistle:

vB 5 currently looks dated to me. Too much grey, too slow, too many design flaws and honestly how many times you use something like an activity stream (forum software doesn't matter)?

Burning board is definitely something I'm going to look into for the future, sure as heck aren't going with VB5.
If Xenforo resumes active development sometime in the future, then no doubt I'll give it a try too, there's just too many uncertainties right now :(

I found this informative. Brad is a straight shooter, call 'em like he sees 'em.

The worse part about that is with IE9 pretty much begin phased in as the new standard for everyone that's running anything newer than XP (_a lot_ of users) we're finally at a point where we can improve the attachment system without having to rely on flash (which is also begin phased out).

With IE9, Firefox, and Chrome all supporting more and more of the latest web specifications every day we should be seeing GUIs that behave more and more like desktop applications. To see basic things not working at this early stage is worrying. Attachments shouldn't just be working, if you have a recent webbrowser the actual interface should be much improved over what everything (including xf) has been using for the better part of 15 years.

This is the first time IB has developed a version of vBulletin from the ground up. They've gotten a lot of things wrong in the CSS/HTML/javascript departments, the amount of SQL queries per page is worrying, and from what I've been told the php isn't much to look at either. But I'm withholding full judgement until I see for myself.

I'm hoping this is just all kinks to be worked out and people are making a mole hill into a mountain but I'm also worried because if the basics are sloppy when they start tacking stuff on top it'll just get worse. Now is the time to get rid of the tangled mess of code that is vBulletin 4 and start anew, making yet another tangled mess just defeats the entire purpose of having a clean slate. I'd rather them take 1 more year to really work on this before pushing the first RC than rushing what they've shown out to market.

Easy to say that. Not that easy to do it for another year without income.
lol, yeah. IB should spend their millions for developing their product instead of wasting them with ridiculous lawsuits. Serves them right if they are running out of money, but we are talking about a corporation like IB here that uses dollar notes as toilet paper.

vBulletin 5 Connect - Each license comes with Standard Support and Expedited Ticket Support for 30 days. For this license, your Expedited Ticket Support begins the day we release a final version of vBulletin 5.0.0 and last for 30 days after that. If you purchase during the Beta Program, we will provide ticket support as possible during the Beta Program. During the Beta Program not all issues will be solvable as they may be bugs or other problems development may need to solve. In those cases, you will be referred to the forums and/or JIRA for issue tracking.
