XF 1.5 User's account could not be confirmed

Have they since been able to confirm their account?

They're currently appearing in the "New Members" list on the Members page: http://www.mooclab.club/members/ which only shows valid users (so people who have confirmed their account).

If they took no further action after the first email worked, but their account is valid anyway, then this could mean that maybe they opened the link twice, or similar. The confirmation links are only valid once and trying to use them again will give you such an error.

If they were able to resend the activation email, and follow through with it successfully, then I wouldn't worry about it too much, and it seems other users have registered since.

Thanks for looking into this.

I manually validated his account via the ACP after he e-mailed me which is why he is now a valid user.

Before I did this, the user's status was "Awaiting e-mail confirmation" even though he had clicked on the confirmation link and got the error.

Users have registered fine since, so it seems his case is unique.

I don't understand the cause though.
