User Option to receive Alerts without email

Is there a way that a user can choose to receive alerts within the forum but not receive an email for each one? I have my email user options set to max and I'm concerned that if they choose to disable certain alerts to stop the flow of emails, they'll miss out on getting the alerts while visiting the site. The forum is currently emailing about every new post in a thread that the user has posted in.

Activity is up... maybe I should leave it alone.

I don't Facebook but my wife seems to get a pretty constant barrage of emails about some post or some tag or this like etc. Maybe people are used to this?

in your user preferences - untick email alerts for reply/quote etc

I think you want the default watch state preference. That's a user preference:

http://xenforo.com/community/account/preferences

You can run this query to set those two checkboxes for all current users:

UPDATE xf_user_option
SET default_watch_state = 'watch_no_email'

You can set the default for new registrations in your:

Admin CP -> Home -> Options -> User Registration -> Default Registration Values

Thanks Jake. I had initially set everyone to watch using the inverse of the query above. Now I wanted to find a way to 'watch all replied or created' but only create internal alerts and not send emails. I think we can handle it in user prefs. I just got a little concerned since I'm getting a hundred or so emails a day myself
