Err... compared to IPS 4, XenForo is a dream!Perhaps XenForo 2.0 will be easier to theme, leading to more 3rd party themes.

Really though, the default theme doesn't matter as much. The important thing is the building blocks provided. Then sites can go on and customize it to make it something special for their own communities.
The way that the header/masthead/navigation is constructed in default XF is a nightmare to modify. Oops... I know better than to say anything negative about XF.Err... compared to IPS 4, XenForo is a dream!
Uh... you really think - that without Pages - IPS is any better? The way that the header/masthead/navigation is constructed in default XF is a nightmare to modify. Oops... I know better than to say anything negative about XF.
today's trend is flat and simplistic
Well, I guess it depends on your point of view.and really awful.
There's a difference between simplistic and flat out ugly
If it was so awful, it wouldn't be so widely used
Well, considering that the "herd" is mass movement - and mass movement entails more people.. I think I'll follow the herd in this case.I doubt that. When was the last time the herd was right? Weapons of mass destruction? Buy high and sell low? You know how people are: followers. As for me, show me which way the herd is going, and I'll proceed in the opposite direction, whistling.
Someone who has done very little customization to the styling on their own forum would probably never understand why people are complaining about the use of gradients.Man, what's with that all this "flat" stuff, anyway? It's hilarious! When I look at the "cool" new "flat" designs, I feel like I've been transported back 20 years. Everything old is new again! It's all flat! Hurrah. No shadows. No gradients. Just lines and colors and words that are clickable but you wouldn't know it because they look just like words that aren't clickable! Bring out the fat ties, baby. They're in again. (See, Martha, I told you if I waited long enough....)
Hey, you'd think with all this simplicity everywhere that our operating systems and software would be getting SUPER FAST, wouldn't you? I mean, there's so much less to process! But guess what? Everything's friggin slower! iOS 6 to 7? Slower! Crippling-my-iPad-slower! Slower! Hey, flat must be FAT! Joke's on us!
But flat is in. Flat is cool. And life's a gas. Why not? Our attention spans are short. And we're not doing anything that's really useful with technology anyway. Might as well "make it new" every two years so that our lives can be about relearning technology rather than getting stuff done, right? We're not saving any time with technology, anyway, are we? We're really just playing with technology for technology's sake! So let's make it new! Why not? Let's make it flat!
"You know what drives me crazy? It's all these people talking about how great technology is, and how it saves all this time. But what good is saved time if nobody uses it? If it just turns into more busy work. You never hear somebody say, 'With the time I've saved by using my word processor, I'm gonna go to a Zen monastery and hang out'. I mean, you never hear that."
