Do they use API to connect to Facebook servers then ??

They only connect to Facebook in the same way as XenForo, vBulletin, IPB and the rest connect to Facebook, in that Facebook exposes an API to allow details to be fetched from and sent to Facebook profiles, but when you view a third party Facebook app, the content is loading from the third party's server.

How about if Internet Brands was smart they would sue Facebook for using their code/images?

It has nothing to do with Facebook whatsoever. Anyone suing Facebook for the activities of this third party app would be wasting their time.

No, the app developers are using their own code, that they write and host themselves, that makes a call to the Facebook API, which then returns information that is interpreted by code the application developers also wrote.

I suspect that really applies to merged threads does it ?

If you screw around too much Google might start dumping your threads into the invisible supplemental index.

I have seen threads without proper redirects disappear from Google over the years when moved, merged, altered, split off into many different subjects and bounced around the forums way too much.

In many cases too much moderation results in a forum administrator becoming his own worst enemy.
