I wish I got more of here in Canada, it's such an effort to hunt it out and stay up with it, looking forward to more of it back in Europe.

Well Jerry we can keep you up with the game Down Under but someone else will have to post about other areas.

The Evil Empire retained the ranfurly shield with a 39-21 win over the Steelers. Having a look at the table it's still tight at the top unfort the Magpies become the latest casualty of the culling in the premier league with zero chance of retaining premier placement regardless of results in their final couple of games. That freaking ref in the Otago game cost us the season :(

In good news for Irish club side Leinster, Clint Newlands (the Magpie enforcer) has signed to play in the Magner League. Clint has notched over a 100 games for the Magpies and has three seasons of S14 behind him with the Highlanders. Further defections from the Bay are expected due to relegation, as long as they don't go to those poaching cantabs. Well done the NZRU!

And Hawke's Bay finish the weekend with a 36-21 win over North Harbour, coming back from being 13-0 down. Fairly entertaining game even with a lot of dropped ball.

Thought I missed a game, Auckland 39-11 over Otago. Apparently the "A" team were less than impressive in what amounted to a hit out.

And the ABs EOYT party has been announced, thanks planetrugby.com for the full squad. Notably Sonny Boy Williams (Canterbury) has been rushed into the squad, Hikawera Elliot (Hawke's Bay) gets a recall, and Stephen Donald (who cares) gets another chance to bollocks things. iDagg is currently under going surgery so wasn't considered. There's a few players I wouldn't have gone with and I would have tried some more up and coming fringe players, but overall strong enough side.

Forwards: John Afoa, Anthony Boric, Daniel Braid, Tom Donnelly, Hikawera Elliot, Ben Franks, Owen Franks, Andrew Hore, Jerome Kaino, Richie McCaw (capt), Keven Mealamu, Liam Messam, Kieran Read, Brad Thorn, Samuel Whitelock, Tony Woodcock.
Backs: Andy Ellis, Daniel Carter, Jimmy Cowan, Stephen Donald, Hosea Gear, Cory Jane, Alby Mathewson, Mils Muliaina, Ma'a Nonu, Josevata Rokocoko, Sitiveni Sivivatu, Conrad Smith, Isaia Toeava, Sonny Bill Williams.

here is the weekends rugby league *shudder* results sorry i cant stand rugby legue rules confusing as hell:

Saturday, 16 October 2010
International Match
New Zealand Maori 18-18 England

And to the final weekend of round robin in the ITM

Northland 36 - 24 Bay of Plenty - the Taniwha were toast going into this round anyway and were heading down a division so had nothing to lose. The Bay had a chance of making the finals for the first time since 1976 or so. After a scrappy start the lead kept changing hands in a high tempo game till the Taniwha put it beyond the Bay in the final ten minutes or so. Huge upset with Northland indicating that any team in the Cup can beat any other team on the right day.

ill get todays results when they are all in but yesterdays are as follows (Union):

Friday, 22 October 2010
Aviva Premiership Rugby
Leeds Carnegie 3-6 Sale
Newcastle 13-15 Saracens
The Championship
Worcester 21-23 Cornish Pirates
The Magners League
Cardiff Blues 10-16 Scarlets
Edinburgh 21-16 Ulster
Munster 39-13 Benetton Treviso

Waikato 26-6 Canterbury, the Evil Empire hit a banana peal in the form of a Waikato outfit looking towards playing finals football next weekend. In a strange game the Evil Empire decided they couldn't win the match so went out of their way via negative rugby of ensuring Waikato didn't get the bonus point win. It's this sort of rugby that drove the NPC match attendance numbers down. While Waikato join Canterbury in the finals, the mix is still being sorted out.

Taranaki 49-47 North Harbour, the Naki popped into finals contention but wont remain there will a lucky win over Harbour. High scoring affair that had the faithful in full voice.

Manawatu 46-24 Otago, now official Otago are the wooden spoon winners for 2010 and have really been shown up this season due to not developing local talent. Nice way to sign off for Manawatu who can look forward to falling numbers, player defections, loss of advertising and all the other benefits of second division rugby. Awesome!

Wellington 27-14 Southland, the Lions stormed into the finals with an error ridden display against the faltering Stags. Wellywood didn't really deserve this based on the high error rate but were far more constructive than Southland who were limited to one off runs. There's some talent in the young Wellington backline but by heck they need a new coach. The wheels have come off for Southland who now have a nervous wait.

The final games in the ITM regular season actually will have an impact on placings, it's going down to the wire.

Auckland v Tasman - Tasman are gonzo but will no doubt want to stick it to the "A" team. If Auckland can achieve a bonus point win then they will finish the regular season on top of the table knocking the Evil Empire back to second. I don't often say this but, c'mon Auckland!

Counties v Hawke's Bay - The Bay are also gone to the dubious pleasures of second division and already have three leading players bailing, but Counties could squeeze Southland out of the top divison if they record a bonus point win. This game should really open up, the Tana factor will be huge. C'mon the Bay!

And to round out.

Auckland 49 - 10 Tasman. Note down the name Gareth Anscombe as the young fly half took a leading role in steering Auckland to their first semi-finals appearance since 2007. The "A" were slightly off the boil in the first quarter but gradually dominated and never looked like losing the match.

In one of those decisions that make the NZRU look amateur hour, Auckland will meet Waikato in one semi-final while Canterbury will host Wellington. Hopefully that's not the case as Auckland while on the same points as Canterbury have a clear for and against lead.

Hawke's Bay 31 - 28 Counties, in the other game on Sunday we got a ripper with the Bay stealing the game in the final minutes. The result consigns both teams to the second division next season and rugby oblivion as the NZRU continue their policy of destroying heartland kiwi rugby, look forward to a drop off in players coming through the Province ranks in future years as money dries up outside the major centers.

49?!? damn were Tasman blindfolded?

And in the first of the ITM semi finals the Evil Empire won 57 - 41 over a plucky Wellington. A total of ten tries were scored and only one goal attempt was missed as both teams threw caution to the wind and turned on a demonstration of why Rugby is the best sport in the known universe.

Further news Rear Gunner Wilco is out of the English side with injury through November, that might give someone with something approaching flair an opportunity.

Dead Bled 2 sees the mighty All Blacks facing the Criminal Element in Asian, *yawn* the fourth time the sides have meet in 2010 with nothing on the match. Apparently the crowds think the same with a low volume of tickets being moved prior to the game. Surprisingly the Agencies all have the Wooblies winning the match, yet again, but to be honest I can't see the likes of Gits (past his use by date) getting through the Blackness defense. Late news Sivi is out with an injury, no news on a replacement with iDagg also recovering. Fingers crossed they notch Zac in this evening.

For Aussies, Channel 7 are going live with the match from 7.30pm (EAST), apology up front for the appallingly bad commentary from that channel.

And finally the Pools for the Dubai 7s have been announced (thanks to PR for the listing):

Pool A: Samoa, Kenya, Wales, Arabian Gulf
Pool B: New Zealand, Argentina, USA, Zimbabwe
Pool C: Australia, South Africa, Scotland, Russia
Pool D: Fiji, England, France, Portugal

Oh here's a stat I wasn't aware of. The two leading point scorers in the history of the game are Wilco on 1178 followed by Dan "the man" Carter on 1118. With Wilco out for November Carter could pass him by the end of that month.

Oh and in case any Aussies need the pass results of the last ten matches between the Countries

Wooblies L L L L L L L L L L

All Blacks W W W W W W W W W W

And congrats to Australia, 27-25 (I think, I started drinking heavily when Donald came on), winners in Honkers. Memo to AB selectors, Donald ... just say no!!!!! Dude cost us a test match .... still good wake up call for the Black, and well won by the Aussies.

Don't get me started on the Ref and the Scrums ... the Aussies got the worse of it there ... Pocock cheats more than the Kiwi 7 btw ...
