Quarter Final Match Ups

New Zealand v Wales
England v Kenya
Samoa v Australia
South Africa v Scotland

The Aussies will not be happy with Kenya causing the only upset of he day in the last round, considering Samoa will come out breathing fire in the quarter.

New Zealand kick away from Wales in the second half to win the first Quarter Final 31-10

England in a battle that neither side gave any ground in finally managed to pull off a 7-5 win over Samoa, and now face New Zealand in Semi Final 1. Competition is wide open.

Aussies are currently slaughtering the Kenya team. Being passed the details as Channel 10 coverage here in Oz sucks.

Scotland up 7-5 over South Africa at half time.

In a demonstration of awesome sports coverage Channel 10 had some Aussie sprinter doing a dummy spit rather than show the Rugby team live. And they wonder why no ones watching outside the bogan hordes.

South Africa use their get out of jail free card winning 10 - 7, Scotland butchered a try in the game's last moment.

So it's

New Zealand v England

Australia v South Africa

Damn Kiwi's got there in the end, the young Aussie team put up a great show going down by one converted try 17-24.

Shame they doubled the length of the final to 10 minute halves as the Aussies dominated the first 15 minutes and just didn't have the legs, or the depth, to land the killer blow.

Master stroke keeping Stowers in reserve till the final five or so. Can we leave Messam at home next time! Surprised Zac didn't apparently feature. Couldn't be bothered wading through the Channel 10 games coverage (abysmal), so watched the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street instead, and get sent regular updates ;) Gotta say that was tense.

Australia played above themselves and are going to be a handful if they keep developing and can keep the team together, (S15 generally robs Oz and NZ of top players for the world series).

So

New Zealand - Gold

Australia - Silver

South Africa - Bronze.

Now if the girls can win the nettie I'm going to be happy, actually don't care what happens in the other sports.

seriously its like England at football, they play well until x mark then they get big headed and play for themselves and not the team ... Scotland are like that they are in lead for most of game, they get big headed and lose!!

Interesting that Scotland went so close to the Bokke considering the pantsing the kiwi's gave them.
Bugger, beaten by the poms and kiwis in the same tournament. Gotta be pretty happy with Silver though!
Losing to the Poms was a masterstroke, how else to avoid Samoa in the semis?

Err and Brits .........

Sorry missed that one Jerry, two thumbs up .....

ITM Cup penultimate round results

Waikato almost blew their finals chances with a lack lustre performance against a disciplined Manawatu outfit. A last ditch try and conversion by the Duck got the visitors home and keeps their finals aspirations well and truly alive. Manawatu were headed for division 2 regards of result anyway. Waikato 27-25 Manawatu

In last night's match the mare the Taniwha are having in the second half of the season continued with the Makos winning 34-29. Tasman* were already going down a division but have now ensured that Northland will be joining them.

For those wondering, the bottom seven premier league teams are being dropped to a new second division format next season. This is inline with the NZRU's policy of destroying regional rugby and ensuring dropping crowd numbers for the Provincial championship. I'm expecting a lot of legal action end of season as a number of Provinces have spent a lot of money bringing their facilities in line with NZRU requirements to then be told they wont be in the top league regardless. If Tewbacca and team could forward a cheque for 5 odd million dollars to the HBRU it'll save a lot of time and effort on my Province's part.

* Tasman may revert to the member unions on demotion as second division isn't going to generate the crowds and advertising needed to maintain the combined team.

Bay of Plenty have just knocked over Southland 33-22 bringing up a couple of interesting possibilities. The Bay have a chance of making the finals while the Stags are now dicing with relegation after leading the competition a few weeks ago.

I wish I got more of here in Canada, it's such an effort to hunt it out and stay up with it, looking forward to more of it back in Europe.
