Like quite a few places. The USA has regional words and phrases as well as accents. I think TV and radio is making it more homogenous but perhaps not in a good way.
 
In Wales you only have to travel about 10 - 15 miles to get a different accent. (in English)
My husband can tell which village someone comes from as soon as they say a few words.
It's the same in Welsh only we're not strong on the Cymraeg.
 
What "crack me up" is American movies that have subtitles for any English speaking parts that are not in American accent!

I kid you not, an awful lot of American films I could do with subtitles.
For one thing the characters talk very fast in the city accents.
American English is hard to understand.
 
We have a family member born and bred in Glasgow, really wish he came with subtitles.
I'm not surprised. I work in Scotland quite a lot and have great difficulty understanding some people! I'm from North England too - almost as close to Scotland as you can get without crossing the border haha.
