XF 1.4 Take forum offline when updating Add-ons?

Hi,

I'm about to update my forum to 1.4.x in a near future. I have a couple of add-ons that I will upgrade before I upgrade the entire forum. Do I need to take the forum offline when I update the add-ons or will the forum make itself unavailable to users and visitors? What's best practice to do?

Generally it should be ok for the forum to stay online during the process.
