Why though when it already expands to fit all the text????

I think this can be good when you are going to write a huge bunch of text. It's more comfortable then when you have a large text area, that is visually ready to receive it. Not so important though.

Except when uploading an image and inserting full version, in that case manual expand is still useful imo.

The TinyMCE expands to the image also for me :S

Ok, not in OS X with Safari for me (bug?).
