Stop sniggering at the back (another logo critique thread)

Have to say, I do like this one (for those who don't know, I'm one of the mods on Brogan's site). He's clearly been keeping things from us again ;)
I had so much other stuff to deal with, the logo took a back seat a long time ago :D

Now that we've gone live, we can always revisit it at a later date.

I had other ideas this was just the quickest of them to implement so there it is. Bottom is meant to be placed over a darker BR

I quite like those, nice work :)
Thank you...I was thinking hood ornament and trim badges when I started which is why the chrome-ish colors in the first... With some finagling you could also morph the CTA into a nice automotive looking logo which I think should work fine for you being a racing site... I had a third but I totally saved over it when making the ones I posted...

What can be changed to make that suit you better?

once I've caught up on the "To Do" list, I'll be revisiting the logo :)
I could probably wallpaper my house with my to do lists....that's the thing with them....every time you scratch an item off the list... two more get scribbled in...and the cycle continues.

Yeah, it took me awhile to find a phrase that wouldn't be considered vulgar or corrupt young minds. (For the record, my definition of young mind in 25 and younger. :D)
Damn that makes me old....better get my ensure :) And I wouldn't worry about corrupting the young...most of them do things nowadays that make us ancients say ..."Kid...ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!???"

But yeah kudos on that turn of phrase, even my sick twisted self didn't recognize the opportunity I allowed by walking into that one with that logo. :)

EDIT: due to inspiration
On that note you just made me think of a new design for this that won't make you start singing "do it like they do it on the discovery channel"...I'll be back for more :-)

I've got to say - your's has been the best logo challenge I've seen here to date; and we're still no nearer to getting the gold one defined.

I'm almost tempted to fire up PS and have a fiddle myself ... maybe I will when I get some free time.

I recall the last time we tried to come up with one, we spent months on it and in the end couldn't agree on anything.

I blame the guy who bought the domain

Ignore the quick and dirty graphics - it's the idea that I'm illustrating. I've been thinking about the curve of the apex of the track (as have others possibly?) but then another curve struck me - the curve of the tyre:

A tyre face-on would be best, of course, and you've possibly already considered and discarded this idea, but it was just a thought ... :)

Cheers,
Shaun :D

Hey Brogan,

You actually had to explain the term "Clip the Apex" so everyone would understand what it means. So that is what the logo (and the site design) should do in some way, shape or form too. :) Most people, even F-1 fans, won't know what it means or relate the site name to the topic of F-1. Going even a step backwards, the logo (and the site design) should at least convey "racing" and sorry, but green just doesn't do it for me either. You may hate Ferrari, but red definitely is a better color to convey, "We are about racing/F-1".

http://www.formula1.com/default.html (red undertones)
http://www.motorsport-total.com/f1/ (red buttons, red titles for articles)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/default.stm (ok, no red. But also no green)
http://www.planetf1.com/ (I like this site. Nicely done. Seems gray is the color you need to have to be neutral. But here too, there are red article titles and links)

Green is also neutral and I am sure that is what you want to be or aiming at with that color, but it is IMHO a racing atmosphere killer. Or are you a Jaguar fan?:p

Just my 2 cents.

Red will never make an appearance on the site for all the reasons you've given.
Way too common and it's associated with Ferrari.

Green is also a historic racing colour - British Racing Green to be exact :)

The colours won't be changing now.
I've spent too long setting it up and all the member feedback was positive.
The green was actually suggested by them, not me.

As for the term, if you don't know what it means then you're not a racing fan.
It's a fundamental concept of racing.

Ok just woke up and the thread has gave me two solid ideas....I will make then today...

British Racing Green it is my friend..
