Star Trek Into Darkness

I read the plot on wikipedia. Assuming it was correct, the plot sounds very... busy. There are also lots of references back to previous movies and episodes.
Yes there are... like I said, I wouldn't waste my money to go see it if I knew then what I knew now about it. It's more a DVD/Streaming movie to me. Don't get me wrong, most people will like it, but I'm a diehard Trek fan and for me the movie blows.

Why do I have a feeling im going to be re-watching trek... all of them... in order?
It probably has something to do with Patrick Stewarts mesmerising voice demanding it to be done...

And how to respond to terrorism in a moral and ethical way?
I would think it would be like most Star Treks. No definitive answer, but certainly areas where you can be more specific. Like how it affects you personally, and how you should expect it to affect others.

And I have to echo BoP's statement on Enterprise. The entire time he was confronting the Xindi, he had to deal with getting too caught up in revenge and painting the diverse species with a broad brush. He even befriended Xindi along the way. He expected to be an explorer. He had no template to follow that later Starship captains did establishing that they had to be explorers AND soldiers. I think they explored that aspect of early Starfleet quite well.

Finally saw the movie- I hate the alternate timeline but this was very much a Trek fan's Star Trek movie. I thought it was great but I can't imagine someone not well versed in Star Trek history would see it as anything above average.

I knew very little about the story line going in but was pleasantly surprised to see the direction it went.

Early on, when you hear something that references a Deep Space 9 plot, you know it's going to be good.

Who is stronger, Vulcans or Klingons?

How come 'John Harrison' could take out squads of Klingons but couldn't even beat lil ole Spock at the end?

I don't recall the two ever being directly compared, but it was once said that Vulcans are 3x as strong as humans... and they are faster and smarter and have better judgment, except for reboot Spock who is always menstruating. Khan has 5x the strength of humans and a superior intellect.

Since Vulcans and Romulans are very similar physiologically and Klingons kick Romulan butt in any type of hand to hand fight I'd say it's a good bet Klingons are better fighters. Whether their absolute strength is higher or if they just have better instinct it doesn't really matter much, but they certainly look stronger and have more natural defenses.

As for Khan, he took out the Klingons with weapons and he probably has excellent aim. Also- lets not forget he did just survive (somehow) a starship crash landing and a jump of 30 meters, he may well not have been in peek physical shape for his fight with Spock. Spock on the hand should have been near peak performance.

And don't forget Spock knew that his friend Captain Kirk lay dead and the only way to bring him back to life was to get Khan's blood. He had that incentive to extend himself beyond his normal abilities to win the fight.

I googled it and there is no official answer on this but this thread best supports your argument,

Vulcans: Their strength level varies, but I believe it is stated in DS9, "Take Me Out To The Holo Suite," Vulcans are 5 times as strong as humans. Other sources seem to indicate 3 times as strong.

*Correction: Vulcans are 3 times that of humans, according to DS9's "TMOTTHS"

Klingons: While Klingons can be agreed to be tougher than humans (redundant vital organs, train as warriors from childhood and assumed to focus on physical fitness and fighting), on average they seem to be about as strong as humans. Worf would be an exceptionally strong Klingon or human, so I am not sure he would be a good example as the average "Klingon," and there is Star Trek 3, where Kruge picks up Kirk and throws him easily, indicating superior strength. However, young Spock threw a Klingon about as far, himself. So, I think Klingon must be somewhere between a human and a Vulcan, at maybe 1-3 times the strength of a human.

*Correction: Average Klingons are probably not as strong as Vulcans, so they are likely 1-2 times as strong as humans.

lol @ Spock pmsing.

He took a phaser, got blowed up sorta and jumped out of crashing starship, but did you see how fast he was running? He made a fast recovery

but you know what I'm not even gonna argue it's just a movie anyway.

What gets me excited about the reboot Universe is that that whale probe from Star Trek 4 will be coming again... Maybe original Spock will remember and give an FYI to the current crew they want to go back in time and pick up a few humpbacks now, before the probe causes chaos throughout the sector.

I see a future a new "Voyage Home" type movie on the Horizon, obviously this time coming back to current times instead of the 80's.

Indeed. This really concerns me. The whole point of a reboot is to start fresh, not use it as an excuse to rehash everything that has already been done before. When the first hints about ST12 surfaced it was said that it would cater more to fans, but that catering appears to be nothing more than a copy/paste.

If they add enough lens flares it won't be a copy and paste!
