XF 1.4 Some characters not importing correctly

I've checked our content after a test import and the following characters do not import correctly:

é is imported as: é

ï is imported as: ï

There are probably other problems with some of these characters. What my be causing this?

What is the source software?

Usually this means you need to specify the character encoding on the first page of the import. For English forums it is usually latin1 or utf8 that works.

It's vBulletin 3. This import has been done by Slavik, I've send him a conv.
