Are you two both asking for different things?
The first person seems to want a widget that will shorten the URL of any page on the forum, whereas you, Coop1979, seem to be wanting to block shortened URLs from being posted.
Can I ask why you would want to block shortened URLs from being posted?

Haha, you're right. I'm sorry, I mis-read the OP's request. I want to block shortened URLs because 1) they mask the actual source, 2) unscrupulous people can post links to sites we don't allow being linked to, and 3) it circumvents our monetization efforts.
Ok my first instinct on this is a quick fix.
You could very well just block the popular URL shortener services using the censoring feature. So as well as using it to censor swear words, you could also censor known URL shorteners.
So http://bit.ly/IImEqq would become http://******/IImEqq

As for this, am I correct in saying this is a way for you to be on any page and create a shortened URL for that page?
