When you're viewing a node the Search menu will show the option "Search this forum only". That's a good idea.

Now, provided that you have enabled the option "Create Pages for Categories" on the ACP, when you're viewing a category for consistency the search menu should display something like "Search this category only" or something like that.

That specifically would be a suggestion, but this option was removed because the forum search option currently searches only the forum you're in (not children). As such, an option to limit the search to just that category doesn't work. Additionally, categories are just container types, so that's not to say that the children are automatically forums; what you're suggesting would likely lead to that.
