Resource Discussion Thread Setup

I'm trying to setup resource threads so when a user uploads a resource, it creates a discussion thread. However, I do not want users to be able to just open any new thread in that forum, but only have it created when a resource is added.

I created a discussion forum, then set it to allow new messages, but not sure what to do with the permissions to allow the board to auto create the discussion thread on new resource creation, but prevent users from visiting the resource discussion forum and just clicking New Thread.

I think you can just turn off create post new thread for registered members. When a resource is created, it should still create the thread in the selected forum where you configure it. (in the specific node permissions screen)

I'm using the same configuration as this forum is using and it's working as mentioned in my post above. (XF 2.3.6 tested, but I don't think this has changed much from earlier versions)

I assume you have set the correct node in "Automatically create thread in forum" for the Resource Category in your ACP?

Are you able to see the configuration of this forum? I believe I found the issue a bit ago. I did the "Automatically create thread in forums" for the parent category but not each child. I thought it would inherit from parent. So do I have to go through all 30 categories and individually set all the fields and create thread? Is there no way to just clone the existing or inherit from parent so if I make a change to the parent, it updates all the children?

Are you able to see the configuration of this forum?

Not internally, but the setup is clearly visible in the forum I linked. (You can't make a new thread on your own, but your content shows up if you release a new RM item.)

And yes, each resource category needs to be configured -- on my own site, the main RM category has no assigned forum configuration, but all of the children in that category have a specific forum assigned and that's where the new threads appear upon resource submission. So, the parent category settings do not flow into the child sub-categories.
