Prevent Thread Subscription Emails?

How do I prevent members from getting emails about updates to a thread subscription?

It depends what you're talking about.

The users can change the Watch Thread notifications in their preferences.

You can also change the default for the board in Admin CP > Options > User Registration

If you're talking about forcing the change and doing it globally then that would likely need a SQL query.
