Lack of Interest Optional Censor?

It would be nice if we could enable an optional censor. Basically, admins would set up censoring as they normally would, but then have the option to allow members to turn it off it they choose.

This way the members who like the censor can use it and those who don't will see the site uncensored. This could easily be accomplished with regular expression replacement statements that are activated on the fly only for those who opt to use censoring.

Is censoring done on runtime or is it ran on thread/post save?

    The former.

The original content is saved in the xf_post table.
Which is handy as it allows you to change the censor details at any time.

I don't know, but if it is done on runtime then I imagine this wouldn't be very difficult at all to implement.

If it's ran on runtime you could pretty much just wrap it in a conditional.

Extra field in the xf_user table - censor - with a boolean true or false (1 or 0) and a check should suffice.

I don't know how but I understand what that should do.

I haven't dealt with databases yet, but understanding it is enough motivation to learn how to do it :D

Well you let me know it goes...I have been crashing dbs all week trying to make a mod that uses one (but you already know I have no clue what I am doing with myself :) )

Don't believe so. If there's interest I'll do it.

I'm definitely interested. I know a lot of my members appreciate being able to turn off curse words while they're at work.
