There was a thread about Arabic spring but non is talking about what is going now in US , Eurpe .. and around all the globe ...

the Arabs was in the street for almost the same reasons

what you think ?!

This is all normal for the financial cycle.

Crappy tv, lack of freedom, governments all over the place, and civil war feelings all around - just before what you could call a depression. 2013 is going to be a huge problem, shouting in wallstreet is a symptom, not a cause.

I agree , just that I was thinking that American and European are fine with there governmental , etc Issues or at least there voice is heard ... but lately -before a year or so- I can see that the rulers are not the voice of ppl as should democracy be ... so now the ppl of earth is waking up ... and all our issues are from the politicians .. they are who make the troubles and make the wrong pictures about different societies
I think this is the problem where one part is in control ... no one to balance !
I hope one day they stop making weapons and sending troops all over the earth

This is normal when 1% of the population controls 90% of the wealth. The mainstream media is deliberately downplaying the protests on Wall Street and the many other protests "springing" up across the USA. I think it's hilarious how the mainstream media will make a big deal about protests and riots when it's happening overseas, but when it's happening in our own backyard, the protests are either ignored or the protesters are proclaimed to be "dirty hippies".

"The country is governed for the richest, for the corporations, the bankers, the land speculators, and for the exploiters of labor. The majority of mankind are working people. So long as their fair demands - the ownership and control of their livelihoods - are set at naught, we can have neither men's rights nor women's rights. The majority of mankind is ground down by industrial oppression in order that the small remnant may live in ease."
~ Helen Keller, 1911

Things never change!

They're a bunch of hippie, socialist freaks.

Occupy L.A. Speaker: “One of the speakers said the solution is nonviolent movement. No, my friend. I’ll give you two examples: French Revolution, and Indian so-called Revolution.
Gandhi, Gandhi today is, with respect to all of you, Gandhi today is a tumor that the ruling class is using constantly to mislead us. French Revolution made fundamental transformation. But it was bloody.
India, the result of Gandhi, is 600 million people living in maximum poverty.
So, ultimately, the bourgeosie won’t go without violent means. Revolution! Yes, revolution that is led by the working class.
Long live revolution! Long live socialism!”
Crowd: [Cheers.]

Does it remind anyone of this:
STEVE MARTIN: Let’s repeat the Non-Conformist Oath. I promise to be different.
AUDIENCE: I promise to be different.
STEVE MARTIN: I promise to be unique.
AUDIENCE: I promise to be unique.
STEVE MARTIN: I promise not to repeat things other people say.

AUDIENCE: I promise … [Dissolves into nervous laughter.]
As I watch these 1960s, hippy retreads, I too dissolve into nervous laughter.

It is quite easy to find someone attending those that is not quite sure why they are there and the media is indeed having fun with that. Just below the surface the majority can articulate specific issues that have occurred of late.

For example a new set of limits on bank fees were introduced buy the government... and almost the same week the banks countered with new bank fees in other places - even though the banks are making record profits - right after $billions of USA tax dollars were used to bail them out.

Statements like this are part of the problem. It might resonate, but its false.

in 2010, BofA paid back its TARP loans in full, but also posted a $2.2 billion loss, the first loss of any kind since before the BankAmerica/Nations Bank merger in '97, the last year I worked for them. Thats a net loss of annual revenue of $4.78 billion. Card services, where Congress cut fees and they countered by raising debit card fees, was a loss of $1.1 billion. When a bank is losing money in card services, its irresponsible for Congress to cut their fees and damage the industry further. The shift of fees from credit cards to debit cards, while not popular, makes perfect sense given the increase in use and processing costs.

And here's the kicker. This is the way Congress envisioned this working. It's called the Durban rule. Go read some of the statements made during the debate. In short, by capping per swipe fees, they will reduce the cost of businesses to process credit card transactions, lowering the burden on the business. Card issuers will them recoup costs directly from their customers in the form of other offsetting fees.

The Durban rule wasn't designed to help card users. it was designed to help small businesses and screw the consumer. Congress didn't try to help the little guy only to have the evil banks adopt a different tactic. This was by design. If anyone is curious, Durban is an Illinois Dem.

My bank is now trying to charge me a monthly fee for having/using a bank card .

Some know why they are there. Some don't know why they are there. Most seem to be there because they have one common thread that runs between them - they have lost their hope for happiness in the future.

That said... I send my deepest thoughts and well wishes for the people in Thailand that few even know have problems of their own. What amazes me is how thoughtful so many of the poor people are and are willing to give their one extra shirt to someone else who has none. While many of these people think of others, the NBA fights about how to split billions of dollars of revenue that it will extract with its basketball monopoly. And then there is Cain who wants to tax a billion dollar company the same as the cashier who makes $28,000 per year working in one of his pizza chains. Old wine in a new bottle but it doesn't mean we should stop thinking or hope that somehow we can make the world, as a whole, a better place for all in the future.

At the risk of sounding stupid, just what IS all this "Occupy... " stuff about anyway? I see Occupy New York, Occupy LA, Occupy Chicago, even my own little town is doing a Occupy Youngstown this Saturday.

Are they protesting? If so, what are they protesting? I can't find a single site that gives a CLEAR reason for the Occupy-whatever-City.

It's a loosely gathered group, mostly being organized through facebook groups that are protesting the financial situation and differential between the different "classes" of people in the given area.

Here's a site about the wallstreet group: http://occupywallst.org/

Capitalism has been proven to everyone in the world that it failed. Seeking profit and forgetting that we are human kind can be dangrouse. Look at where we are now. We need a solution socialism is not it, but unity against wars and those who benfit afterward can be our real weapon. :) You feel you are oppressed by the regime, go outside and protest :) its been this way for decades and its working. Keeping your mouth shout would not bring you your right. Speak loud and clear and make your point so the entire world will listen and support you.

Protesting about what you believe to be wrong is a cornerstone of Democracy.

I always find it amusing and ironic, that arch conservatives try to put down Protests, or brand Protestors as dirty hippies... whilst being the most vocal supporters of Goood Ole Democracy.

Seems like many Americans are very unhappy, there is a massive in-equity in the US between rich and poor, they are perfectly within their rights to protest that.

Personally, I am grateful to live in a nation which still has a large number of Banking regulations in place, and as a result did not have the catastrophic disaster of the US banking system.

It's actually good to see that young people still give a ....

Gives me hope for the future that not everyone is a brain dead consumer sheep :)

Yeah but i wonder how many people are going to be there to protest because they actually believe in the "cause"?
