Now that Xenforo 1.1 is out, let's talk about version 1.2

Just because something is official doesn't make it anymore secure than any other solution.

By the logic that everything should be made by XenForo, nothing would get done, or the platform would turn into a jack of all trades, master of none scenario such as IPB, which I definitely do not want to see.
110% agree with this. For those that have used the IPS software would know just how true this is.

Please...no user albums. Leave that to modifications or official addons.

I'd like to see a coupon system for the payments. Maybe even a way to show when prices have been reduced (say for the holiday season, showing the number crossed off and show the discounted number).

Also, I'd like to see what DigitalPoint suggested about adding the Paypal API to give our users more options, especially that of cancelling recurring payments through their user panel rather than going into paypal's confusing system.

I think improving the paypal payments API to allow users to cancel their recurring payments is critical.

We need a mobile template that brings all the features of XenForo into a neatly wrapped template that works on iPhone, Android and Windows Phone.

Apps are great and all, in fact I've got branded apps for both my Android and iPhone sites. There is a gaping hole when it comes to a supported mobile template.

This is really where we need to start moving towards. People using mobile devices to access information is greatly increasing and we need to tap into this market asap.

I'm looking forward to user albums, user blogs, CMS, and other payment gateways (like Authorize.net or ClickBank) for premium memberships.
- We certainly don't need User Albums since Pepelac already have made an excellent add-on for this (or maybe they can buy it from him to speed up development?).
- User blogs? I have yet to see a forum where this is being used a lot.
- CMS? There seems to be some very good bridges for Wordpress and the likes. Not necessary to bloat the XenForo software with this.

Most of users have their own Picasa or Flickr accounts. I'm not sure most of administrators need a "User Albums" module for their members (except the ones dedicated to photography). A simple bbcode to display slideshow is good enough. Same thing with "User blogs"... like it or not but a forum can't compete with "social media" on this. Now of course a basic CMS would be nice, but look at vB 4... It's not hard to see that Xenforo is going step by step and don't want to rush itself. And when you see how good Wordpress is, a good bridge (official or not) might be a better solution.

Your idea of other payment gateways is nice. It would allow Xenforo to make the difference with other scripts on that point. What I would love to have in the next version would be a better integration with bbcode and editor with the possibility to configure the editor buttons.

The priority is now to the "Resource Manager". The actual presentation is not very sexy.

I've seen it but didn't test it yet. I was waiting Xenforo to become "mature" (I can't say "stable", because even xenforo betas seem stable ^^).
What would be great is a BBCode manager (cf King Kovifor) that integrates editor button visual configuration :

Something like this :

>>>BBCODE CONFIGURATION PANEL<<<
[BBCODE A]
=>bbcode configuration ($value/$option) ; (I haven't checked yet, I hope we case use regex on captured variables ; on vB thanks to this, I've been able to display Picasa semi-private slideshow [see here])
=>Do you want to activate [BBCODE A]
==>Not parse this bbcode for these usergroups :
=> Do you want to display a icon for [BBCODE A]
==> bbcode image path :
==> usergroups to display bbcode icon :

>>>EDITOR CONFIGURATION PANEL<<<
A new button would be automatically created, and it could be dragged and dropped into a visual area of the editor (like it's the case on Wordpress... but without the possibility to easily create your bbcode).

I have a forum with thousands of blog entries.

Most of my users even don't know what Picasa or Flickr is :)

Simply not all users in the world are like your users.

User blogs are really just an individual "forum" for that particular user. Why is this so hard to implement and being put on the back burner? The functionality is there, it's just re-purposing the technology and making it look like how a blog is supposed to look. I think blogs are great for giving people an outlet to share their thoughts and a space that's theirs on the site. It helps build community!

You severely miss the point of developing something properly and underestimate the time it takes to actually develop software.

It's not a simple cut and paste job.

I am planning to start a forum soon.Everything is planned but I am still hesitant to start it on xf because it's very important for my forum (and for many others) to have a shopping cart and a subscription manager integrated in xf itself.
So I hope xf 1.2 brings it to the board! :)

user blogs
Poll 1,000 users and 10% of them will say they want to write a blog.

Give that 10% a blog, get everything set up, and come back in 6 months. maybe 10 users will have written more than a "Hello" post or a few banal anecdotes about their cat.

It turns out that most users who think they need a blog are better off actively participating in a "Coffee House" type forum. There is really little difference in sharing their life experience between that and a blog. The traits that make one a successful forum poster don't necessarily translate to the skills required to be a quality content author.

There's no doubt that Wordpress is the best-of-breed blog software. XenForo could spend 2 years trying to copy it but why? WP is dead easy to install, it's in active development, and there are bridges to forum software to display recent posts, or include blog posts in the forum somewhere. I wouldn't even mess with trying to integrate user databases. Just sign up those 5-10 of your users who will actually show an interest in posting articles with blog accounts and treat them as a team of authors helping to build your website.

It's been stated that XF is going to focus on being a quality forum, and allowing developers to write add-ons and plugins. I'm not Kier, but it seems rather unlikely that XF would add a shopping cart feature to XF beyond the rudimentary paid subscription system. I just think it's totally beyond the scope of XenForo to deal with tax laws, shipping calculations, inventory management, order tracking, and all the other cruft that a shopping cart requires.

If you are running a sales site that needs forum support, I'd see if you can get someone to modify your shopping cart software to automatically create an account in your XenForo forum, populate the user account with the relevant information, and then e-mail the user information on how to login to and use the forum should they be interested in using it. Most purchasers of products don't feel the need to comment on it unless there's a problem.

Do you have more information about this ? I would be very interested to (automatically) link a Wordpress article or post to a Xenforo thread, then use Xenforo for comments.

Edit : found it here ! Thanks again for this information. Great :)

Status updates. Show me 10 sites that actually use user blogs and their users always using them.

My needs are quite modest but I would seriously hope they would be met before 1.2.

1. PAGES. Use of bbcode editor - on the frontend. Access to edit as a user permission.
Otherwise they are practically useless to me as none of my mods do html and I don't want them accessing the ACP anyway.

2. ACP USER DISPLAY
Date or joining, Date of last login.

3. CONVERSATIONS
Show ALL participants - at present the display of the Conversation list is almost useless as I can't see who each one is with.

1. IMO TMS is one of the most important things.
1.1 several changes to the core (see suggestion forum:P )
2. Mobile Style
3. global sidebar + sidebar manager with in/export feature for blocks
