XF 1.5 New user with banned email address but no record

Spleen

Chap wants to register on my site but can't because 'the email address you entered has been banned by the administrator' but I cannot find any record anywhere of his email address being deleted and nor is it in the banned users list so that I can unban it. IP checks out, email address ends in hotmail.com and all seems legit.

Scratching my head. Any ideas anyone?

Back to this again with a chap who has a btinternet.com address, it's saying his email address has been banned by Admin but I cannot for the life of me undo it and I can't even see it it the Banned Users or anywhere else for that matter.

Any ideas anyone?

Can you run a manual check on the xf_ban_email table in the database and see if said email is in there?

Cheers, not quite sure how to do that though. Can you take me through the steps?

Yes, of course. To run a sql query you must go to the phpmyadmin and select the name of the database that you have used to install your forum. If you aren't sure what the name is, you can look it up at the config.php file inside the src folder of your forum. Look for the value assigned to $config['db']['dbname'].

Next step would be to make a backup of the xf_ban_email table and then click the sql tab and copy paste this query:

SQL:
SELECT * FROM `xf_ban_email` WHERE banned_email LIKE '%@btinternet.com';

That query will will return all email addresses using the provider that your user is saying it's banned. Or you can look look for the precise email address by running this query instead.

SQL:
SELECT * FROM `xf_ban_email` WHERE banned_email = 'example@btinternet.com';

Replace example@btinternet.com with the actual email address that you want to search.

If that email address isn't returned by the queries then you can be 100% sure that it hasn't been banned.

Something to keep in mind, I've assumed that you are using the default xf_ as a prefix for your database tables. If you are using another prefix use that instead of xf_ or otherwise the queries will not work.

Hope it helps you.
