Add-on Must I ask? Arcade

Keep in mind, just because an add-on is "paid" or "premium", does not make it a better add-on. I have seen plenty of software you pay for that is a POS.

That is true.

But seriously ... is an addon that costs $5/year ... actually paid ?
It's virtually free. Is that the cost of a cafe latte ? one beer ? 6 days of hosting costs ?

$5 is free, basically.

When I find bugs in a product and I help the developer discover or figure out what is going on. I feel I have done my donation for the product.

Im for one with Brogan. I think to decide if it is going to be a paid on add on at this point is mute.
If no developers step up to the plate I guess it won't move any further along than it already has.
No one seems to want to tackle this task fair enough. Kinda hard to believe it but looks to be true.
Especially when add on developers develop some stuff that does squat..... and a job comes along that many members want for they're forums and no one picks up the work....unbelievable!
Here here! I want to remain positive about this though. Time to take some crash courses in coding mods for xenforo looks like. Hell I aint got nothing else better to do.

I thought we would have the arcade long before blogs and portal, not just because of the demand. I just cannot figure out why other coders have not jumped in to be first to market with a XF arcade. There may not be much return financially, but that hasn't stopped other BIG mods from making their debut in the Xenforo ring.

Arcades are a lot more work than a blog is, and a lot less beneficial to most communities.

$5 = server costs for approximately 6 days.

I own around 20 servers, some cost $400 some $600 a month. $5 a month really doesnt help in the big scheme of things.

Anyway I am talking with Kevin to handle the coding of the migration to XF. If it falls through I will write my own. I am like most of you in need of this migration in order to import my large sites who a vast majority of members come everyday to hit the arcade. No time to waste. Regardless of any outcome an Arcade is needed and I will code it unless Kevin finds someone else who can do this quickly, which I am all for :)

Good job sir, I personally don't need much of an importer as all of my sites are clean. I would be happy with a good looking Arcade system. If you need any help styling it or developing good looking templates please reach out to me :).

Stan: Responded... :)

You guys/gals post too fast! :p I had to step away from the keyboard for a bit to take off from the office and head home.

Since I already imported my community to xf, if you do build an importer please allow the ability to skip score importing :)

An importer shouldn't be neccessarry. Relaunching a site on XF or relaunching an Arcade is a good enough reason to reset all the scores. Heck, if anything, that'll work people into a frenzy of attempting to gain highscores.

Suggestion: Link some alerts and trophies to scoring :)

Another vote for a clean good looking arcade. This is what v3arcade has over other arcades.

No need for an importer, good time to start fresh!

Just an update. Was going back and fourth with Kevin, but nothing concrete yet. I wanted to start working on it this weekend. I guess I will just wait.

The weekend is here which means I'm also catching up on some stuff. Just sent 'ya an email with some stuff to play with. :)

Follow-up regarding the original coder (you guys/gals may have noticed by now that I believe in being totally frank when it comes to projects I'm involved with)...

I have purposely not mentioned the name of the original coder because his intentions may have been totally good but got caught up with life. It happens to all us on occasion; heck, I am guilty of it myself at times. As such there was no reason to be openly disparaging against them without knowing everything. Karma is funny that way so it is best not to tempt it. ;)

Tonight I received a very polite email from the original coder offering an apology as well as a copy of the code that he had worked on so far.

I have not had a chance to look at the code yet to see how far along it is so I can't answer the question that I'm sure a lot of you are thinking right now: So what does this all mean? Stan & I are still working out some details via PC but he is as motivated as I am to see v3A ported to XF so we continue moving forward.
