I have that chat by Siropu its very good for chat rooms but not messenger style.

It's a big problem when trying to migrate people away from Facebook, their messenger is so good and users love the fact that it's live and cross platform. Even I prefer to communicate with some members on Messenger, What'sApp or even just SMS as it's more instant and the notifications are better.
Siropu is great for chat rooms.
Arrow Chat is worth checking out for the price to try and emulate the Facebook style of Messenger that follows you around the site. Especially for the price, compared to CometChat.
Xon's Live Content is probably the best bet if you just want to make the built in XF conversation system feel more live

I have a similar system on an XF1 site and it was okay, but still sucked compared to Fbook messenger and I always found myself going back if I just wanted a live text only chatty feel.
Now that XF2 has built in push, Xon's add on is probably quite effective and worth a try, although I've not tested it yet myself. It will probably satisfy android users that want cross platform messenger notifications, but iOS users are still left in the lurch and will probably still think Fbook messenger is better, especially if they use mobile a lot.

Thanks @RobinHood I think Im gonna try the Arrow Chat. I had a look at the Xon's addon but unsure what it does?

Just because I mostly installed arrow chat because I thought it was the coolest thing I ever seen. To be honest I'd rather have a chatroom for the users that's more easily accessible. Earlier last year Siropu took my suggestion for a popup chat option. It was mostly more appealing to me because arrow chat has a chatroom option (and he actually responded to my question in his thread on how to make it also a popup chat in the nav) but I don't really like the idea of any user being messaged where I can't see it off hand. Also because my site is new and we wouldn't use it as much.

It makes conversations, ie. the built in XenForo private message system auto refresh by checking for new messages every few seconds and automatically displaying them. This makes it feel more live, rather than having to do a whole page refresh to check for and display new messages.
It also does the same for threads.

Is it server intensive?
