Let's talk about 2.4 baby

I'm so boring... I'm going to strip it down nothing probably. 😂

Not specific to the new editor, but do I really want users playing with font family, size, bold, italic, colors, underlines, etc? No. Give me the stuff that doesn't affect how text is presented though. :)

Imagine if Facebook or anything else that has a lot of user generated content let their users do this. Can we just bring back <blink> too?

I mean, the ability to use comic sans would certainly add an air of authority to certain posts if it was an option, just sayin'

I'd love to see each of these BBCodes have their own enable/disable option. I don't much mind bold or italic text. However, I don't want folks playing with the font family, font size (just use the paragraph headers), or especially not colors. Others may have different ones they like/dislike.

Ya if it was up to me, they would be user group based rather than universal on/off. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Still hoping the TipTap whiteboard is built in (with an option to enable/disable or follow image permissions).

Interesting.

Excalidraw is a quite amazing.

I use Obsidian.MD 's excalidraw plugin to create local whiteboard notes. Obsidian uses Markdown and it seems Xenforo and TipTap support markdown.

I'd love some combination of Obsidian and Xenforo. Xenforo needs pages anyway. Obsidian doesn't have the concept of multiple users.

And they're all in XF 2.4. It's a fantastic product. We've got a lot more to show you. I'm in a good mood so I'll post some sneak peeks below.

The work to get the current build up to Tiptap v3 wasn't difficult. But a lot of time has been spent adding an incredible amount of polish. We're excited to show you more, including DX updates so add-on developers can extend this as fully as their minds (and agents) can muster.
Something that didn't catch my eye the first glance.

That doesn't look like a ordered list or unordered list. Perhaps a task list*?

Does that mean new BB Code is added to achieve things for TipTap, and/or will BB Code eventually be a thing of the past?

Also, enter is currently a line break. Will it be treated as a new paragraph? What does that mean for old content using line breaks? Will it be formatted to paragraphs or left as is, if line breaks have been changed, of course.

* Edit in TipTap TaskList extension link

BB code is still very much a thing behind the scenes, it’s still converted to BB code during save, and rendered back to HTML on render, and you can see and edit the BB code as now for all existing and future posts. No wholesale change to BB code is basically the short version.

Enter is now new paragraph. Shift + Enter does a more traditional line break. No change to old or new content in terms of how it’s stored. The simple version is one line break (stored as the standard control character \n) still produces a <br> line break but a double line break indicates a paragraph boundary. Old content also gets correctly rendered into paragraphs now as well.

I spent a lot of time working with existing content from this forum as testing fixtures while building the editor to ensure everything round trips from database BB code, to rendered HTML, into the editor, out of the editor as JSON, back to BB code and back as HTML (basically a complete render loop) to ensure everything is saved/rendered correctly at every step.

Sounds like a lot more work than "slapping a new editor on". Keep it up.

I'll take closer looks at screenshots now. Got a new preview? 😄

Look, just don't tell @Kier I'm leaking HYS stuff early, okay?
Very interesting way of editing the task list! (As opposed to "Edit")

I'm just curious if that follows post edit permissions (if it saves), or overrides that as it's merely marking it off (the only change), and if it shows "last edit" if beyond X minutes. But you can save that for the HYS.

Looking forward to it.

It feels like those readable font colours across light and dark style variations could be some sort of a clue 👀

Appreciate the sneak peek teaser!
