Is it the time for Flash Upload replacement?

lol even though digitalpoint expresses concerns about its functionality or reliability? I wouldn't accept $5000 to start working with something that could ultimately be a worse user experience for users.

I'll upgrade the thing I have using it to the latest version and see if the user complaints about uploading hanging stop. The annoying thing about using an HTML5 uploader is that it still would need a fallback mechanism for browsers that don't support it yet. It's too new to expect users to all have supporting browsers (like IE9 doesn't support it).

Sure, obviously the first thing the addon would have to do is checking against the supporting browsers.

One always has to weight the advantages of more user interaction (maybe more uploads in this situation) against less user interaction (no uploads from annoyed users). The idea of drag&drop files to the uploader is so great, but if users would interact more - who knows.

Gmail have a great drag & drop feature, and it works on older browsers. So I think they can fix.

The new version of previously mentioned HTML5 uploader (http://blueimp.github.io/jQuery-File-Upload/) seems to have gotten it's issues fixed in the latest versions. Haven't run into any of the ocassional issues I ran into before when using it.

They even have it working on very old browsers now too (IE6, Firefox 3, etc.)

Might be time to dump the flash uploader finally. :)
That's very encouraging news.

I'm not sure if @Mike has seen this yet?

I'm almost certain that such a fundamental change wouldn't appear so late on in the beta process.
