Intermittent "Page could not be loaded"

I'm not sure where to post this question, so here it is. :-)

This problem has vexed me for a long time. I am using Firefox browser on a PC / laptop for my web browsing. I like Firefox the best.

Sometimes when I load my forum site, I get this:
1692381249781.webp

If I smash the reload button over and over (sometimes over a dozen times) it eventually loads. This happens without an adblocker

However, if I open a Microsoft Edge browser window and load my forum site, it loads perfectly. THEN, if I immediately switch over to Firefox and hit "reload," it loads perfectly (without having to hit the reload button a dozen times).

One of my forum users just reported the same issue with Safari on iOS.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

Why? It could be useful for troubleshooting.
Because I don't want to deal with the BS I'll inevitably get about the controversial nature of the primary topic of my forum. Given the broad (and international) demographics of this forum, it will not go well. Promise. My site isn't about aquariums or amateur astronomy. ;)

But, I also don't think revealing it will help "troubleshoot." I have the latest updated version of XenForo.

That's the service worker error page so suggests a network issue of some kind, in this instance it'd be pretty much impossible to troubleshoot without the URL as it would involve inspecting network requests in the developer console. Would probably need to raise an XF support ticket if you'd rather not post the URL.

Not sure I'm understanding. Is it a software (XF) issue? Or something to do with my hosting service, perhaps?

I don't mean to be obtuse or "mysterious" about the site url. It's just that unfortunately, some folks will be absolutely compelled to comment on the topic, which shouldn't be controversial... but it is.

It would need to be debugged to establish. The service worker is a network proxy browser feature used by some sites (including in XenForo) to do various things, and that's the page XenForo's shows when it hasn't got a valid server response or there's been some sort of error, so could be a server issue, but someone would need to be able to see it to determine what.

We’re mostly grown ups here, not going to be upset if you have an “adult” site!

Broad and international demographics are a good thing aren’t they?

It is absolutely fine to not share your website address and others should not pressure those that wish to not share them.

Of course it is if - especially if you have a good reason to keep it under wraps.

Agreed

However you will often get better advice/support if people can actually have a chance to see the site and so know what the issue is:

It's not an "adult" site, if you mean porn or "nekkid" people. LOL! No. Not that at all. And no... my site would not likely appeal to anyone outside the USA, for the most part.

I really would rather not get into it. It's a topic that people feel very strongly about one way or another, and in a venue like this.... will only distract from the question at hand. Why is my site doing this on certain browsers (it seems)? It's got nothing to do with the content and revealing the site publicly here will do absolutely nothing to answer my question. It will ONLY precipitate a debate that is neither wanted nor appropriate here.

However you will often get better advice/support if people can actually have a chance to see the site and so know what the issue is:

Except it won't. The problem is quite intermittent... not consistent. Anyone looking at the site is quite likely to say, "It's working fine for me." And then... they'll launch into criticism about the topic... OR they might like it very much! LOL! But it WILL cause a debate here. Trust me.

I think his site is more "ultra conservative" than "p0rn" (unless it has some gun p0rn in it, and that I can get down with).
Think along the lines of mymilitia (which runs IPS) and the "heat" that they had from certain segments of society. I can see where he probably would not want that happening with his site.

Sure.... I'm just not sure if it's to XF or to my hosting service. I thought maaaaaaybe someone here had experienced the same problem. Guess not.
Generally a network connectivity issue would be with your hosting provider.
Could it be something to do with FireFoxes built in tracking preventative? Generally if you are having an issue with only one browser.. it's pretty indicative that it's a browser issue, or at the least a conflict with the browser and the script, which would then need to be debugged on both ends.

Yeah... someone here guessed "militia" on another thread. Very very far from that. LOL! It's nothing illegal or even "gray area." It's just something that some people just HAVE to chime in with their opposition. I'm trying to avoid that here. :)

Sounds logical. But why would it be intermittent? Thanks for your comments.

That's why I said "ultra conservative"!
The mymilitia site was simply used as a comparison on how ultra conservative sites tend to get roasted for their content when others don't agree with it.

Sounds logical. But why would it be intermittent? Thanks for your comments.
Can depend specifically on the page you are displaying. It may not be every page doing it... just certain pages with trigger worlds/elements that FireFox doesn't like.

To XenForo who could look at it and then tell you if it's the hosting or not.

There's not one single cause that's universally the same every time that someone would be able to tell you without being able to see it. So even if someone else had the issue it might not be the same cause. It's like asking a mechanic to tell you why your car is making a knocking noise over the phone instead of taking the car in, they might see it within 5 minutes with the car in front of them but can't tell over the phone. If someone could see the server responses it might explain instantly what it is and why it's intermittent.

If using CloudFlare, try disabling it for a few days and observe.
Navigate your forum with Browser > Dev >Console open, so you'll see the actual error when it happens.
