This is from one of my older posts, but it was several different ideas, and I rather this one be added rather then any of the others.

Ignore/Filter System
One thing I've noticed that is currently lacking (In the form of user ignore) currently, and that most forums do not extend more then the basic concept, is the ignore function.

• Users: Rather then just ignore their posts, PM's and such, I'd like to see them completely ignored. More then once, I've been on a forum where there was a person that I could barely stand would aggravate me.
• Forums/Categories: The ability to completely hide forums or categories, and filter out any threads or posts in them. I often don't read introduction forums, or site showcases, and I rather not have to sift through them when I use the "What's New?" link.
• Threads/Posts: Ability to ignore certain threads and posts. This is more because I rarely participate in forum games where yous say something about the previous poster.

vBulletin's ignore functionality sucks purely because a post by an ignored member is replaced with "you have ignored this member. Click here to see the post" how silly

I'm not referring to the built-in functionality. I believe there was no "ignore thread" built in, it's an add-on that I use.

You're right though, that message is a little funny.

An ignore system for members is schedules for 1.1.

Hopefully it'll be extended to support nodes and threads as well at a later point.

It is coming sometime later this summer.

The first part (ignoring users) is now available, but hopefully it'll be extended to support ignoring nodes and threads later on.

A few changes I'd like to see with it are:

1. Adding a link to the membercard and to the profile for easier ignoring of a user.
2. Ignore levels, so that you can have the default ignore (where you can view the content if you wish) and one where it would ignore the persons existence completely. Obviously not always needed, but I know certain members here get my ire up, and I tend to be tempted into responding.

My language was fine, my point was that we can't choose what features they're going to include before or after the stable release, nor when they can get to this feature.

I rather not have the feature (And wait), than to have one that was like vBulletins, where there wasn't much point in using the feature.

So posts from that forum are ignored in What's New (there is an add-on for that right now) but forums are hidden from a view as well so from big forum with 500 forums or more user is creating his nice small forum with only 40 forums he is interested in.

That's what this suggestion (now anyways) is about.

It'd be great if they expand the ignore system so that members have a greater control of what they're shown.

I have a question: Let's say you have your privacy settings set where ANYONE can view your profile, and you have someone ignored. Can that ignored person view your profile?

My idea is to have any guest (not just people you follow, or follow you) view your profile except the creeps you have on iggy.

Can someone elaborate in this for me?

Here's why I ask. I've been doing vbulletin freelance for about 12 years now. Some creep got all twisted out of shape because I wouldn't refund him $100 for some work i did for his porn site in 2007 and has been stalking me ever since. He's put up blogs, contacted my clients, you name it. He's been repeatedly banned from just about every forum he visits. Now he's followed me here.

Because the creep is... well, a creep, I want to use my full profile to list my portfolio of works, but I don't want him seeing it. That's why I ask.

I would suggest you start a new thread containing this question, as it is a very valid question.
But I think I remember this has been asked before..... when this "Ignore feature" was introduced. I am not sure.

I do not believe that is the case. I believe that if you want to prevent someone seeing your profile, you must hide it from everyone except those that you follow.

I actually made that comment in private to someone earlier, @erich37. Especially since I posted within 5-10 minutes in the other thread. But no, I'm not. I'm procrastinating studying and these forums can be mindless and productive at the same time. So I pretty much read these forums quite a lot.

But alas, this is off topic.

This would be a pretty awesome system to see in XF 1.3. Ignoring entire forums and threads would be great.

I hope I didn't overlook a separate suggestion for a "New Posts" forum filter, but this is certainly needed.

Bummer - doesn't look like we're getting this functionality for v2.1 (not that I'm unhappy with what we are getting in 2.1 !! )

Hopefully this remains top of the radar for v2.2 - because I have already promised my members exactly this functionality and if we don't get it in the core, I'm going to have to build it myself
