Ignore / Filter System

This is from one of my older posts, but it was several different ideas, and I rather this one be added rather then any of the others.

Ignore/Filter System
One thing I've noticed that is currently lacking (In the form of user ignore) currently, and that most forums do not extend more then the basic concept, is the ignore function.

  • Users: Rather then just ignore their posts, PM's and such, I'd like to see them completely ignored. More then once, I've been on a forum where there was a person that I could barely stand would aggravate me.
  • Forums/Categories: The ability to completely hide forums or categories, and filter out any threads or posts in them. I often don't read introduction forums, or site showcases, and I rather not have to sift through them when I use the "What's New?" link.
  • Threads/Posts: Ability to ignore certain threads and posts. This is more because I rarely participate in forum games where yous say something about the previous poster.

I am using Ignore Content by Theme House
Its very good
Many of my users like to ignore whole Threads or Categories

But I hear they may be no longer supporting it (or changing their terms)

Filtering threads is the one I want most, I think. OTOH, the threads I would want to filter also tend to be the ones that require staff attention (anything to do with a certain former US president, for instance).

Supported ignore add-ons:

It should be added to the core, but there are still options.

thank you for that, i knew there were the thread only ones but its hard to get excited for that at that price....the other one wont do categories but im sort of wondering how many votes it might take here, this is a little amazing its not been implemented at near 250 votes.

I paid much much more than these 3 combined to get it done for my forum, but it was prior to these being released.

If these add ons incorporate what I also had done in addition to it, I'm going to have an aneurysm. 🤣

I'd love to see the ignore features expanded. I paid for one of the above add-ons and it works ok. It's implemented poorly in my opinion.

And then I paid a well known developer here to create a more thorough ignore feature and he created a decent concept but one that had a lot of bugs and then he basically stiffed me. Not thrilled.

Just a tip: Never pay until you're satisfied. As a newer member, you might be required by some developers to pay a percentage upfront, but not the full amount. The rest should be due when you thoroughly test it to ensure there are no bugs, but the developer should also iron out any bugs that you find later on that you weren't able to diagnose in the beginning, unless it's something like fixing it for a newer version of XF (i.e., you bought the add on for 2.2 and it required removal of Ajax for porting to 2.3, then you would owe something to update it).

I'm also of the opinion that you should out them and work out the difference in public so that others know who to, or not to, work with in the future by hearing the full story. However, I'm unsure if that's allowed on this forum.

If the developer has a thread in the “ Third-party services & offers” it most certainly should be reported there so everyone is aware.
