If XenForo's finished, what's next?

I used IPS on a very large forum for years moving from Ikonboard and I much prefer Xenforo.

The IPS licensing is just stupid, I think they are more gearing to large corporations than smaller forums. I find that with a few forum softwares and by comparison even the cloud version of Xenforo is still reasonably priced.

This is all quite disappointing for me considering I only recently purchased XenForo to create a forum. I quite like the software so far but I feel a lot of third party addon developers seem to have abandoned it. Also there is very little help or information around to fix things. A lot of the older tips, trips and fixes around customisation only work for earlier versions of XenForo.

Check out most of their competition, both paid and free, where the add-on options range between none to virtually none.

The closest is Discourse, but unfortunately many of the good plugins require you to host with them. Some are even worse, requiring the pro, business or enterprise levels. There are about 300 total plugins, and Discourse's team maintains a list of all "known to currently work" plugins, which is about 105.

If xf shut down i'd move back over to vBulletin and be on the cloud over there. I don't mind it and have still got an license over there.

Updates may take long, but what's the rush? Stable beats fast or updating for update sake.

Xenforo works very nicely. We aren't left with broken software to eagerly wait for a fix. No. Even PHP support is current, up-to-date (on that hamster-wheel of chasing those to stay with the supported version).

Life is good. Stay cool. It will all be fine. :)

There are a huge number of functions that are vital for community development. they are implemented on paper, as it were, but the updates never come out, and people wait for them for years. For this reason, people are irritated and tired of being fed "soon."
Think about it.
