IB SOLD

remains to be seen what the new owners have planned for vB if they have any. you cannot really be sure that they are not going to fix the thing considering it is hugely popular on the web and still retains some really big customers.

To be honest, having waited since 2007 for version 4, and seeing how that ended. Why would any respectable site owner still waste more time with their community waiting for a product that one can consider a worthy upgrade to push their site to a modern interface that is user friendly, uncluttered and affordable to continue investing in?

Personally I have waited long enough, and waiting yet again for what another company is going to promise just isn't worth it for me. I want my users to feel comfortable posting. And not continue to give them false hope that we're addressing the issues they're reporting over and over again. The web around them evolves, the site doesn't.

I think a mere $100 investing into XenForo vs $285 for vBulletin to have a solution "NOW", rather than empty promises for later ( and probably expired support and newer version 5 upgrade fees again, etc) solves a lot of problems and is worth the investment.

Even if vBulletin catches up to 2011, and produces a product that's worth upgrading to again, I think it's a little bit too late. I am not going to consider it again and put my faith in developers that understand the market, understand the customers, and know what they are doing to do things right.

well one thing is pretty clear... IB had more value because of the web properties they run and manage.

the pricing and the timing of the launch makes it an easy decision for me. the beta testing period would enable me to play around with my forum database migrated.

i can now only hope to find a way to fix the link migration issue... vbseo > vb native links > xf links!

A year ago I probably would have been worried or something.

Can't say I really care at this time what will continue to happen to vBulletin. Still a little sad, but it's time to move on. End of summer here we come :D

I think something will need to be done about this. A huge number of us use vBSEO and dont want to loose the links. I personally want to keep the forum name in the address, which from the looks of it, as standard XF does not do. Someone will end up doing a mod....if nobody else does it, I know I will!

Really looking forward to the beta - we're in the middle of a planned overhaul of our side, and intentionally started recoding the vB FORUMHOME template to be 100% css. Basically we designed it to look a bit like the layout of the XF forum home template, so users would get used to upcoming changes :p

It's a big vote of confidence for the forum business model so that's great news. Otherwise we will just wait and see.
It's going to be interesting to see if their acquisitions slow down because they are no longer trying to show quarterly results or if the new owners will ramp them up.

This merger (not SALE) will likely make IB a private company again, which is a good thing for consumers of their products. Publicly traded companies are typically much more profit-driven, as they have to show consistent gains to investors if they want to keep their money. A private company can take chances that a public company cannot.

After paying a big premium for IB, I am sure the first order of business is how to sink even more money into vbulletin, much of the presale money probably being long gone and little to show. Yes, I am sure that private equity investors are more satisfied sinking money into the ground after finding out they were dumb enough to buy an inflated shell...

I somehow struggle to comprehend how VB will survive a double change in ownership as new owners always want to apply their own little stamp of approval onto things... which IB did and look what it did to VB. Now the new owners will no doubt want to stick their head in the door and make changes... especially when they are selling off what in essence is VB before the expected failure sales into VB5.x. My steadiness in the company moving ahead and recovering from the last takeover just got a little shaky now! I find it difficult that customers will swallow any more corporate nonsense...

Timing couldn't be worse...or better. It 's hard to see the future and predict whether this is a positive or negative move for vB. I am quite certain it is good for IB and their sites, but the vB script is another story.

What I do know is that a buzz better be created soon, much like the one prior to the release of vB4, because the attitude and morale over there couldn't be worse.

This is a train crash in the making ... best to jump off this train and blast off on the XF Battlestar spaceship. :)

I am really totally ignorant on material like this, but can somebody explain to me why something like this is such a bad news?
