I have a hard time inviting dudes to my site.

It's easy for me to add chicks to my site but when it comes to dudes they just aren't interested. I'm hoping with bobster's Sportsbook addon http://xenfluence.com/ that I can entice the many dudes on my contacts list to join by letting them know they can bet on games. Other than Sportsbook I don't know what else I can do to attract dudes to the site. Do any of you have any gender issues with recruiting?

What exactly is your site about?

    Currently, nothing. :ROFLMAO:

It started out as a copyright tutorial site though.

lol That makes sense now, spent 5 min on your site trying to figure out what it's about.

I wanna stick with the copyright tutorials concept. The only problem is that most of my copyright-oriented stuff is private because I'm still working on it. Even so, I would think that a regular general chat forum shouldn't have such a ridiculously lopsided female-to-male ratio. It doesn't make any sense to me.

Has a lot to do with your topics and member base. As a guy I personally don't have any interest in being an active member on a general/off -topic forum, however if it's something that I'm into... (y)

With my site being about dirt bikes/motocross, I have mostly guys on the forum and find it hard to get ladies.

Now that makes a lot of sense. I'm not interested in most of the topics peeps create on my board. I usually go to other forums when I feel like posting. As an admin though, I can't really criticize what people post because then they'll get mad and stop posting so I have no choice but to go somewhere else.

Yeah I wouldn't tell the members to stop posting off topic threads, keeps them engaged. Our Off Topic forum/section is the second most popular forum. Heck if I remember right our Off Topic sections account for 25-30% of the total stats.

Excess chicks on forums is a perpetual problem. I think every forum has too many women and not enough guys.

I think what you mean is that it is easy to add chicks that are really guys.
but it is hard to add guys that want to post as their real gender.
    Slight difference.

I've never been comfortable with advertising like that because there are plenty of sites with lots of women like plentyoffish and facebook. The reality is there are way more dudes on the site compared to women BUT the women post more than the dudes. That's the problem. Like I can get dudes to join, I just can't get em to stick around and post, whereas the chicks are always on there. That's why I want that sportsbook addon so bad. He's supposed to release it today.

A dude joined my site, pretending to be a chick. Fooled me for years. My members tried to convince me it was a dude but I didn't believe them until this guy dug up some unrefutable evidence. It's mad disturbing the lengths people go through in pretending they are a member of the opposite sex, even getting other girls to write them fan signs. So lame. But nah most of the chicks on my site are real.

How are you getting your members? Just about half of the 700 member of my general discussion forum are women because half the forums I hung out at attracted a lot of women (e.g., Japanese cartoon forums, and some religion forums).

    Facebook, Myspace, Twitter...

    oh wait... Dating/Rating sites. :ROFLMAO:

Okay I see my problem now. I don't usually talk to dudes on sites like those so if I do it will look weird that I'm messaging them. That means to get more dudes I'd have to ask one of my female members to do it. Doesn't look right when I ask.

Alright I created a games page this weekend since bobster won't sell the sportsbook addon yet. This arcade might get more dudes. http://the8thlegion.com/games/

Maybe tomorrow.. I am trying to finish up some new category related stuff for it that one of the beta testers has been pushing me to do.

Would it be possible to include the ability to upload a thumbnail for each category, as well as uploading a thumbnail for a bet. For instance, letting peeps upload a NBA logo for the NBA category. Would it also be possible to upload a thumbnails for an event, such as Knicks vs Lakers, we can upload the logo or a funny picture of the team mates. I also asked this on your site just now since this thread is too random to remember the suggestion from.

    I have the same problem.

I'm fairly certain we have mostly all women. I think we have 3 male members (counting myself)

It's a very odd problem to have isn't it? I mostly post on forums that are don't have a lot of chicks, so this is pretty weird for me.
