How to configure XFES Elastic Search for Xenforo on AWS

Has anyone successfully got Enhanced Search running with Elastic Search hosted on Amazon ?

I have had no luck getting stemming to work, and so today I created a new ElasticSearch server, this time running 6.4, which AWS now supports, as of the past few days (Feb 7th). Now I can't get XFES to work at all.

I've got everything working. I did create a new instance using the new 6.4. Set my access policy using IP address, per this post:

Re-installed ES, with stemming enabled, and rebuilt index. All working fine

I've done a bit of looking into this and, for user/role-based access policies, it looks like AWS requires requests to go through a signing system:

Amazon OpenSearch Service

This isn't something XFES has support for.
