How does view full size media work

I have a question about how the full size media works.

Is this how it works:

I have my photos set at 800 x 800. So that means if i upload an image that is 1600 x 1600. The Media Gallery will shrink it to 800 x 800.

So when i press on the button "View Media in Full-Size" It will show me orignal image of 1600 x 1600

right? If not. Do i have the settings wrong?

The full size is the size after any resizing has been carried out.

Not the original size prior to uploading.

Oh i see...

So i'm better off keeping the settings blank so i don't lose the images orignal size.
