How do I stop a super user from posting so much?

He's bored.

Give him something to do. Moderate? Write Articles? etc he has passion. don't stifle it - leverage it.
Not sure what drives him to be honest, not sure it's passion. Although if you photograph as much as he does, it must be. But I've known him for many years (we all come from an old forum now gone) and still have no idea who he is. He's hard to figure out. Still, your suggestion is something to think about. Thanks.

Looking at your forum over a number of days I can see more than one member posting in bulk but I couldn't really identify the member in question. It could be down to timing but I see nothing there that would put me off joining, quite the opposite in fact. Your forum looks vibrant with a decent amount of activity so as I said earlier I'd hesitate to do anything that might potentially lose an active member.

I know right, things never happen when everyone is looking! He's been real quiet these past few days. 😁

Have you tried talking to him privately?
Perhaps tell him not to comment on all the posts, so as not to make other users seem disinterested in the forum, and encourage him, for example, to only add his photos to some of his posts.

Perhaps it would be helpful to read at least the start posting of the thread before giving advice. If you had done that you had read:

My super user doesn't engage in discussions at all, just posts pics.

One of my forums is art related, and I wonder if I have the same user? They have been posting about 10-20 times daily, for weeks.

They are stimulating a lot of discussions, which is nice, but dominating the forum.

At first, we thought it was some kind of AI bot. I think he is real. :)

Could you start a few different topic threads he wouldn’t be interested in? Also like the idea of giving him something to do. Does your forum suggest members have a “diary” thread that others can follow? I have that - individual members have a “personal “ or “diary” thread for their pet. They post regularly on it updating it with their own content/ videos/photos - others can comment and the thread poster enjoys the attention and comments. Gives everyone their own special thread as well. So you could perhaps start a new section on the board - your personal photography thread. They can call their thread whatever they like - within reason - eg x name wandering or whatever. Then he can post prolifically on his own thread and it might distract him. Looks like he wants attention. I do have some members who post prolifically on their own threads and less often on other threads.

Edit - haven’t seen your site so don’t know if you already have something like that. What is the web address?

My guy has posted 29 times in the last 4 hours and he’s not done yet.

In my opinoin, thats just wrong. No one wants to see the same poster over and over again. Yes, its a photography forum but still. You can use the media gallery addon for someone that wants to display their photography. You may want to change how your forum works. More along the lines of what lenses and cameras are used. S;pecific settings, when and why to use them. You really need to have a conversation with this member and discuss ways to improve the forum and not over run it.

Yeah, I really did start this thread for a good reason. He's now at 37 posts and he will continue. Others who post after him, he just overtakes. The only threads that show other names are the ones he doesn't post in so he can't overtake those. His aim when he's on these posting sprees seems to be to fill the entire first page in New Posts with his name.

Is it a member beginning with S? If so first two whats new posts, it just looks like he's responding to the other post favourably. Basically just supporting your forum.

Took at look at your site, looked like normal activity to me.
That's because we had an influx of other members and they were posting heavily for a bit. So he left. Now he's back and posting again. 48 posts now. And he won't retire for hours.

No, that's not him. :)

If you think he's spamming the thread and stinking up the forum thread ban him.
Make it a rule that 5 thread bans = day off for stinking up the forum
