Have most forums lost traffic from Google since April 2024?

I'd give anything to have the good old days of 2005-2010 back. Back before Panda and/or Penguin kicked forums to the SEO kerb.

I’ve also never seen nor heard of Google penalizing any site that uses AdSense.
When people say penalising it often means means not getting ranked as high is it might do, compared with being given an actual penalty for some transgression.

just upgrade to XF 2.3.2 & feel the power, your site indexing will go high, website will get better result on google search
I got 1k page indexing everyday after upgrade
Ok, i understand that given 2.3 updates includes better optimization, but what are the real life results - google do respect them and rank your results higher and really have more traffic after upgrading?

XenForo by default does not have this metatag iirc: <meta name="robots" content="max-image-preview:large"> and from what i have read around, this is kind of useful if you want to get into Discover.

I’m not sure what you mean by includes better optimization. Obviously if you can speed your site up that may help a bit. There are a few things that can be used for optimization but purely upgrading won’t necessarily cause an improvement if you don’t do anything to help with optimising.

Google has been considering forums as sites with low-value content for many years, in fact it is very difficult to find form posts in the top positions! and with each new update to its algorithms, things can obviously only get worse for forums.
Inside this forum, however, there are people who, despite the clear evidence, maintain the opposite...

August update was brutal. Lost around 40% traffic. Funny enough, it was aimed at boosting rankings of smaller independent websites.
Xenforo should collate data from all it's sites to show that google is just trashing smaller independent sites.

Alternatively someone make an addon, and xenforo sites that want to participate in the "stop google screwing us" can have their data used anonymously.

1 site complains about lack of google traffic = easily discounted.
300 sites complain about lack of google traffic = maybe google will care.

Webp and FA.
Yes I’m aware of the image optimisation but I was assuming the discussion was going in the direction of more general search engine optimisation which the update installation per se won’t help much without some input and configuration from site owner.

It had more to do with stronger SEO efforts by other sites, especially huge sites.

Google flipped their ranking last year to take forums into special consideration, to help boost their traffic. Early this year they started testing a forums tab on the search results to help them even more. When they started rolling it out to everyone (June), searches for forum, forums, community, discussion, chat, help and other forum related searches started growing again.

So "things can obviously only get worse for forums" isn't fact, when Google is making efforts to help them. Its better for Google's bottom line not to send visitors to the walled gardens of big social networks.

Perhaps look into why your own efforts aren't riding the rising tide?
