HashTagging

HashTagging [Paid] 2.2.2

No permission to buy ($25.00)
What if you hide the sub menu and sidebar? Also have you adjusted the "max post age" option at all?
Makes no difference.

Also can Can you link the title 'Trending Topics' to the Hashtag page... Like the Members Online Now is linked to the /online page.

I would also like to completely remove the Hashtag from the navbar.

Thanks.

what pages load slow? your index should load fine if the addon is enabled with the sidebar and the submenu off. The /hashtags page probably loads slow (working on a chaching system) but your threads/posts should load fine, and if you click a tag it should load somewhat quick. The caching system I'm getting ready for the next release should fix all of this.

Good idea, I'll link that.

I'm adding an option to remove the nav item entirely. Several people requested this.

When I click on a hashtag ... I get this popup.
I was not expecting a popup. I was expecting a page ....

If I right click on a tag link and select "Open in new Windows" I get this ...
this was more what I was expecting.

So Popup vs an Actual Page ... what is the best default action ? Hard to say.
One thing would make sense ... if a user was presented with the popup .... they should be able to click the tag in the popup and be directed to an actual page. What I mean is when you click this..

Hashtags isn't the best Tab name IMO. Admins and Addon authors will like that name. I myself like the name. Forums of less technical users (95%+ of forums) probably would benefit with a tab name like: Trending or Trends or Topics. Being able to change the name of the Tab would be good.

The Hashtags "homepage" felt weird.

I was definitely expecting a list of hashtags to choose from - as would most users.
A list of "the five most commonly used hash tags for the past week" could be an option, but a tag cloud is a better idea.

I think hashtags in the subnavbar is always going to be too cramped.
They should be moved into a cloud. A link called [This week] in the subnavbar would be useful.

There are many different ways that hashtags could be used. Some for fun communication, some for more serious documentation. hashtags for just admins and mods might hashtags more of a documentation tool or announcements. The current design reflects one way of using hashtags .... Hopefully, I have given another way of using hashtags.

Suggestion: enable addons (RM, XenPorta, etc) to support hash tags.

keep up the #goodwork
:)

Daniel Hood updated HashTagging with a new update entry:

Caching Enabled

To help bigger boards be able to use this addon without a drop in performance a cron job has been added that runs every 15 minutes to update the tagged content. Now all hash tag content is pulled from the cache instead of the database on every load (technically the cache is in the database but you know what I mean).

An option in the admin panel has also been added to remove the navigation link all together.

Read the rest of this update entry...

When you click on a hashtag, you should get an overlay. It shows the most recent ones. I hope it stays that way as well.

I do like this tag cloud on the forum index. It should exist on the hashtags homepage even more so than in the forum home.
It looks like the list entries are separated by a single space. How about a double space or triple space to make it more readable ?

When you hover over a tag .... I see it gets underlined.
I like it when a tag looks and feels more like a button.
Like when you hover over [New Posts]

I appreciate your suggestions and I hope I don't skip any:

I handled the overlay the same way facebook does, I think it's more organized. I probably don't want to leave the page right away, I want to see some similar content and continue browsing the thread I'm on (my opinion), if I do see something I want to respond to then I'll click the link of that post (the title of the thread/date) and go there. I might add an option in the admin panel to make that the default behavior but I will not switch it to be the default.

The tab name is a phrase and is editable within the admin panel. I'm still not a 100% sure about the design and I'm working on different ideas/feels. There is a sidebar option in the admin panel, I was already advised to make it work with widget framework which I'm probably going to once I know big boards are operating smoothly with this addon.

I want to move more content into the hash tagged content settings, now that it's all cached I probably will. Profile posts are next and then maybe external data.

Not really ? How so ?

YES ! I love that idea. For me, tagging threads would yield better results.

Hashtagging for Posts = social, fun
Hashtagging for threads = structure / organization.

/me loves #hashtags

If it looks strictly at the first post for threads, you'd miss all the possible occurrences in the responses? Maybe I'm not fully understanding your desire.

Updated the add-on. Still extremely slow and fails to load site. Seems to effect the /index.php (forum list).

Addon disabled.
