    The way that the permission
system is currently, it will hide a forum totally from view from guests if you set the permission for them to not view it.

Now, if you want the guests to see what they are missing in certain forums, this is the mod that you need. This will allow guests to view the thread titles but not teh thread contents in forums of your choise. When they will attemt to view the thread contents in their forums they will get the standard no permission screen. You cvan see this in action at my test forum, here:

Installation. First unzip the mod package and ftp the library folder inside to the root of your forum folder. Then go to your Acp->Add-ons->Install New Add-on->Install from uploaded file: Click the Browse button, locate the addon_addon-LookNoRead.xml file inside the mod package and hit the Install Add On button.

To configure the mod go to Options in your Acp->Threads, Discussions and Conversations and all the way to the bottom you will see 2 new options. One is to enable/disable the mod and the other to choose which forums you want to restrict thread viewing from guests.

For more, please have a look at the attached screenshots below.

Hi borbole, great mod. How about spider permission to view the threads content?

I think that spiders should be see the same contents as guests. Meaning if guests do not have access to a forum, the same would go for the spiders as well.

Indeed. Not to mention that it can hurt one 's site ranking as well.

If you could do that, then you will run the risk to hurt your Google ranking. At least that is what I have read on several occassions where such a thing has been strongly adviced against to.

Right Borbole, but if you driving more guest registration limiting the guest threads view (for example for three discussions or so) you don't hurt Google (my personal experiment on many communities).

The only legal method to achieve this with Google is if using Adsense, and allowing the Adsense bot to the content without registration vs. a user must register. Googlebot, is equivalent to a user. Deceive it, pay the price.

    Nice mod...

    Great add-on, borbole!

Quick suggestion, to minimize the negative effect of this add-on, you should leave the meta description and actual title tags in place.

In your forum's case, your page, as well as all other pages where the add-on is enabled, would look like this in search results:

    "Error | XenServices
Our purpose is to provide a professional service for all those forum administrators who will need additional help and support with their forums/websites. You can read more about our services here. You may..."

You'll not only end up with duplicate content, but users are less likely to click on error pages.

Like I said earlier, leave the meta description and title tags untouched and have something like this:

"Testing the Guests Can Look But Not Read Mod | XenServices
Blah blah blah some information users are interested in blah blah blah..."

Registrations would increase and the add-on would have little to none negative effect on your site.

Yes and not Bro. Not the same thing. Isn't different content but only a limit for certain users. With cookie mode, no worry for G.
I know thousand of forums without any ban that driving this light and honest method to drive more guest registrations after free navigation of the site for many pages/thread/time.

Other thing is closing the door to guest at all and open the door to spiders.

Mod updated. The error message will also show when guests will mouse over the threads that they are not allowed to view.

    You can see it here:
