XF 2.0 Effective difference between Forum overview and Forum list?

There are widget locations for the forum overview... and then also widget locations for the forum list...

I can see no effective difference between these locations.

The widget location definition for "forum overview: top" says:

A position that appears at the top of the forum overview wrapper used by the forum list and the forum "New posts" tab.

So it sounds like it is a combination of the forum list location, AND the "new posts" tab. However, no widgets in this location appear on the new posts tab... So its effectively identical to the forum list location.

So why does this widget location exist?

This is applicable when you make the new posts list the default page of the forum section. (If you make the forum list the default, then new posts is only considered part of the what's new system. Otherwise, it's somewhat context sensitive.)
