Does Xenforo need a Sitemap or not?

While that may be true, it's more for sites with orphaned pages/content (no links to stuff anywhere). XenForo is not structured that way, so it's really not necessary.
It certainly won't hurt your rankings, but it won't help anything either. Not worth the bytes used to store on server in my opinion (at least not for a properly structured site).

If xenforo needs a sitemap, it ought to be built into the software.
The whole sitemap thing was a giant brain fart on google's part. Goes against the primary principle of user friendliness: keep it simple, stupid. Sitemaps are a geekism that no self-respecting search engine ought to be seen promoting, for only geeks are capable of generating them. That leaves the gazillions of non-geek run web sites out in the dark, which of course is just stuuuuuupid.
If google needs a sitemap to better index web sites, it ought to have its search engine credentials stripped, pronto.

Sitemaps are good if you change your url's. Yes, redirects will help, but I find Google adapts a little better when you submit to them the new structure in the form of a map.
Think of it as going down some roads that have been redone and re-routed. Sure you can follow the new signs telling you where to go, but if you have that updated map or gps it's going to happen sooner.

I have asked this question to many seo experts and seo forums and the reply was always the same: the sitemap is VERY important for a site, even is the CMS is Seo Optimized (like Xenforo, Wordpress).
So yes, if you care about the Seo of your forum, you should have a sitemap.
p.s. Please, don't respond me saying "I doesn't use a sitemap on my forum, however i have good seo results". I know many sites with much spam, duplicate content with tons of visitors from google, but this doesn't mean that having spam and duplicate content is good for your site.
