Do you like the forum description on hover only?

Hi,

the description of forums on the forum list only appears on hover and the forum stats are placed way more prominently instead on XenForo. I'm not sure if this is the right way. What do you think about it?

Cheers,

I like it. You generally hover over a title to get to the thread listing (before clicking) so you see the tooltip when you hover over. It's not there unless you need to see it!

But how many people would actually bother with it? Most people don't bother with settings as it is.

The problem with the personal approach is that we would end up with a lot of things as an option in the ACP or the UCP because people like to see things in different ways, and it was that series of options that ended up making vBulletin somewhat bloated; there's practically a switch for everything, even the most trivial of things, when really there shouldn't be.

Right now it's as simple as removing a small bit of line in a template if I remember a post by Kier correctly. If you don't want it on your board, remove it and you're done.
The problem with not making it an option is that lots of people are going to start threads asking how they can change it. This wastes time for both XF support team & customers.

I agree with you that not every small detail needs a switch, however forum descriptions can be an important thing on a discussion forum. But it's open to discussion, and if it's easy to change it wouldn't be a problem for me personally. I'm just taking into account the people who are less technical.

When reading this thread I can't stop thinking that this should be an user option with a forum default setting. If admins can't agree on that little thing it would be better to give our users a choice. ;)

Admins get paid the big $ to make certain decisions, I certainly hope turning the usercp does not have this option. Then what each user sees will be different, and add to the admin/mod work load. In addition for each option (usercp) it adds another dimension of complexity.

My current plan is to have popups 'on' in the admin cp and have short descriptions for the more frequently visited forums with no popup, and have longer descriptions with popups for the less traveled forums. For instance a longer set of guidelines for a classifieds forum might be a popup.
