CTA Featured Threads & Portal

CTA Featured Threads & Portal [Paid] 2.17.0

No permission to buy (£40.00)
Looks good.
I have added those to the list of portal sites in the second post.

Version 2.9 is undergoing beta testing and it looks like it should be ready for release soon.
Ironically, writing the release notes and updating the resource content are actually going to delay it, as there are a lot of changes.

If you are creating a new thread and plan on setting it as featured could an option be added to the posting screen. At the moment when creating a thread in the Thread Status section you have Open & Sticky perhaps add another option that allows the thread to be Featured, would save posting the thread and then featuring it.
Just updating my notes.

Assuming there would be a new checkbox on the create thread template like so: [ ] Feature Thread

Would checking that display the manual feature overlay and then the thread would be manually featured, as it is now?
Or would the thread just be featured automatically with no manual input?

Personally would prefer it as it is now, check the box then the overlay shows as now to manually feature the thread.

Having thought about it, if (when) I do it, I will probably add an option so people can choose whether to show the overlay or just feature it automatically.

I don't really understand what it is you are saying.

There are currently threads featured on my site.
I can see them logged in and as a guest.

The link is there regardless of whether there are featured threads or not.
If there are no featured threads an appropriate message is displayed.
It works the same as the "New Posts" link in that respect.

Sorry, I was wrong - I hadn't realised those were featured threads, I assumed they were just home page content.

However my point was not so much that, but that if you have the featured thread list as thye home page, then as well as the obvious "home" tab, there is also a link in the sub navigation to "featured threads".

It is a bit confusing that this also leads to the home page, on first clicking people might think the link is wrong as they wouldn't be expecting the home page. And if the header "Featured Threads" is not on the home page, and the featured threads look like articles (which may well be the case if they have a lot of characters as opposed to being short excerpts), then this adds to the confusion.

It does for me anyway. But once you know that the featured threads page is the home page, i suppose it's OK, but many first time users would just be a bit confused when the subnav link goes to the home page..

They're both.

Do you mean the link under the Forums tab?

There is a new SP for that.

Brogan updated CTA Featured Threads & Portal with a new update entry:

Automatic!

OK, only one guy asked for it, but it was Chris so I could hardly say no, could I?

It is now possible for threads to be automatically featured.
I could have just done it based on selected forums, but no, I went further. Much further!

Not only can you select multiple forums, you can also choose from various criteria such as all threads, number of likes, replies and views.

Go on, admit it, who listened to the song all the way through? :D

WTF, where do I buy 10 crates of this thing. Amazing stuff Brogan, this is now a complete solution to show off content from a forum.

Incredible stuff.

Top work as always. (y)

No, but that was only because I was keen to thoroughly read through all of the release notes. :D

Let's see how long it is before you get a question that's answered in the release notes...

If you have installed 2.9 it will be there.
I'm looking in options,

I have 2.9. installed and I can see Enable Page, Home Tab and Home Tab Links but no Enable Forums Tab Link option. Where on the options page should I be looking for it?

It's a Style Property, hence "There is a new SP for that.".

SP = Style Property.

It's also mentioned in the resource update, along with a screenshot of the SP page.
