CTA Featured Threads & Portal

CTA Featured Threads & Portal [Paid] 2.17.0

No permission to buy (£40.00)
Yes, you can use Widget Framework with it. See the question "Is this add-on compatible with the [bd] Widget Framework add-on?" and answer in the FAQ tab at the top of this page.
Thank you Martok! I can't believe I did not happen to see that. I will take a read now. Thank you :)

Just another suggestion. The greatest thing would be to have an option in the user settings to let users chose wether they want the forum/node view or the featured portal page as initial page.
It's not possible to do that as a per user option - it's a global setting which affects all visitors.

How to make that poll one stick there and not going anywhere, not replaced by the fresh ones?
You will need to set max featured threads to 1 and bump that featured thread to be the latest by updating it.

Also, @Brogan, I do not check 'latest' in my CTA option, but it appears that the 2 featured threads on the forum list appear not random at all. They appear as 'latest' even though I leave the 'latest' unchecked. How to fix if I want them to be randomly ordered again as they should?
I can't reproduce that - it works as expected when switching from latest to random and back again.

Ok so it will need to bump again.

Yes, but I leave the latest unchecked. It means it should be ordered random right? Instead, the featured threads still be ordered by date, the newer above. They appear as 'latest' even though I intend to make it 'random' (I leave the 'latest' unchecked but they appear as latest).

If you are referring to the portal page, then that is correct.

Random display only applies to the forum index, forum view and new posts.
Furthermore, if you have more than 1 featured thread displayed on the forum index, it won't be random.

I must be missing something obvious. I uploaded the files and installed this plugin, where do I view the portal? How do I enable and disable it? I want it at /portal for now, and after some development and setup I will move it to the root. Thanks.

Brogan ha written very detailed explanations of all of the features and how to enable these. This can be found in the Overview tab above and via the links in the Feature Summary. It's worth spending some time reading through that as it will answer pretty much all of your questions.

There's also a guide here for enabling the portal/home page: http://support.cliptheapex.com/threads/configure-the-home-portal-page.345/

Note that the portal/home page can only be in the root of the directory where XF is installed (replacing the forum index), or it will by default be at threads/featured, although that can be changed using a Route Filter.
Thanks for this. Right now I have a wordpress homepage at domain.com, with Xenforo being at domain.com/forum. I want to play around with the portal and develop it before going live. What's the best way to do this?

Regarding the "Enable page", if the page is enabled but I don't create a Home tab, where can I access the portal? What is the default path?

Also, it's adding links to the Forum tab, where do I disable this?

My goal here is to eventually replace the homepage with a portal of recent threads, featured threads, etc. but I want to be able to play around with the portal and design it for a few days.

The path is threads/featured.
If you don't enable the Home tab, there is a link to it under the Forums tab in the lower navigation bar.

In the Syle Properties -> CTA Featured Threads Settings

Note that the home page of the add-on can only be within the path where XF is installed.
So if you want it at the domain root, you will need to move the XF installation to there.

Simply enable the permissions for you only and remove them for all other user groups.

Thanks for the info.

On http://cliptheapex.com, I see the portal is at the root and the forum is at http://cliptheapex.com/forums/. Is Xenforo installed in the /forums/ directory? I see threads are at domain.com/threads and not in forums.

Regarding my case where URLs are all at /forums/ and XF is installed there, do I setup a redirect for domain.com to redirect to domain.com/forum/threads/featured? What's the best way to make the portal my homepage, considering my circumstance? Thanks.

No, XF is installed at the domain root.
The /forums/ route is a default path in XF, it is just usually masked by the index page route setting.

If you want the home page to be at the domain root, you will have to move the XF installation to the root.

Ah, but that would mess up all the existing URLs, right? So that isn't an option considering the forum has 1M+ posts.
