CTA Featured Threads & Portal

CTA Featured Threads & Portal [Paid] 2.17.0

No permission to buy (£40.00)
I'm still not clear on the search suggestion as your follow up post seems to imply something different.

Do you just want to find a list of threads which are featured?
Or do you want to search for content from the current list of featured threads?

You click on the search box on the top right, type in your keyword and it gives you some options to limit your search.

Currently, you can limit search by titles, by member, by date, by forum, etc. I am suggesting we can limit search by featured threads.

Right, so you want to search for content but only in currently featured threads.

I'll update my notes so I know exactly what the suggestion is.

Request - I would like to customize featured thread page to have all links directly under the title with content to follow, example attachment thumbnail

Yes. I wasn't thinking that it would need to add anything to the index, just another way of filtering the results.

You will need to edit the cta_featuredthreads_list_item and cta_featuredthreads_featured_list_item templates to achieve that.

The footer is contained within <xen:if hascontent="true">...</xen:if>.
You will need to move that entire block of code to just after the main div.

EDIT: Getting there slowly

What is best way to approach this extensive customization, template modification is adequate for this?

Hardcode/Add me as well to test 2.8 and future releases please :)
I missed this earlier.

I'm just finishing off Beta 3.

Hoping to get it done tonight but it's almost 2300 here so it may not be until tomorrow.

As soon as it's ready I'll send over a copy/add you to the conversation.

You can specify the duration for featuring threads in hours, days, weeks, months or indefinitely. The default setting is 2 weeks and this can be easily changed when featuring or updating a thread.

You'll see on my site that I always use timed featuring, the length of which I decide on depending on the content of the thread.

Yes, exactly as Martok said.
I use the default setting of 2 weeks after which time they are automatically unfeatured.

The duration can be set when featuring or changed when updating an existing featured thread.

Ah, what I was wondering about was how the expired tag works but after using the addon for a little while have discovered that it automatically adds the expired tag regardless of whether you remove a featured thread manually or whether its time runs out. Which is great and the right way to do things in my opinion.

Yes, the [Expired] badge is automatically added to any previously featured thread, no matter how it was unfeatured.

Whether that be due to it expiring, manually, being merged, soft deleted, etc.

5. When we do a search on a forum we get options for 'Search this thread only' and 'Search this forum only' how about a 'Search featured threads only' option?

This is also something I would like however if it could also include expired threads. Only because there is generally not very much content featured at once, usually just enough for a page or two whereas expired content and currently featured content would be all of the best threads basically.

I think it would work just like how you said Brogan in the previous post that it would only return from IDs that were featured and would not need a separate search index.

In the featured threads block on the forum view page, is it possible to rotate the last x number of featured threads? One of my guys on CoinTalk just made the point that if we feature five threads today in a specific forum, that whichever thread we feature last will get all the attention on the forum view page. Thus encouraging petty jealousies. I wouldn't want to show more than one at a time, for sure, but rotating them might be a nice feature. Sorry if that's been covered somewhere in this thread already, I tried to read through the whole thing but skimmed most of it for obvious reasons.

The currently featured threads display randomly on each page load, unless you have selected the option to stick the latest featured thread.

Pretty much everything is explained in the resource body.

Brogan updated CTA Featured Threads & Portal with a new update entry:

Random collection of good stuff

This release adds some useful additional functionality and features, designed to get your members sharing your best content on the various social networks, thereby promoting and maximising traffic to your site.

Once again, this update has the potential to break stuff so follow these instructions carefully.

Due to the page options changing to introduce the new sort orders, the cache needs to be updated.
Until it is, errors may be generated and pages could fail to...
