MG 2.1 Creating albums anyone can add media to?

We'd like to create a category for events, create a single album for each event, then allow members to upload their media to that album. Is this possible? The fact that there's a "Can add media items" permission for albums gives me hope that it is.

I know we can do it by creating a separate sub-category for each event, but that would really clutter things up.

There isn't a way to do it for albums within categories unfortunately.

You'd have to either create the albums not in a category, and change the privacy settings of the album to allow anyone to post in them, or you would have to just use categories.

It's worth a suggestion though as it may be something that we can do in the future.

With that in mind, you'd probably just want to create the albums without a category for now, then if we do sort out the granular album privacy for albums in categories in the future then you'd just be able to move them.

You could use categories that essentially act as albums by not allowing album creation in said categories.

Example:

Beer Fest (Category, Category type: Container only)
2019 (Child category, Category type: Media items only)

That's what we're doing right now. Unfortunately it's messy due to the way we have categories displayed in the subnav and category view pages. Albums would be much better.
